Bogotá is just like this. And boy did it take me a while to get used to that. Major road in the city? No left. Go across and make 3 rights instead. Many times the roads are one-way and organized to facilitate this. It's weird. But once I got the hang of it, it made driving there much easier. And the traffic there is certainly chaotic compared to the US, yet they make it work. It's all about being clear and predictable with your actions, and being a decent person.

Sadly I feel that we don't do either of those in the States, we act like we "own" the whole road and have a right to do whatever we want whenever we want. The posts and comments you see from Americans like "we can trade paint, it's up to you" really drive this home. We are not considerate. We do not work together on the road. Not at all. We are very aggressive and self-absorbed.
In Korea - I was surprised to see how polite people in traffic were. They needed to get to their own destination, but were not rude or aggressive in a mean way. Cars were pretty much ding-free.
Parking around apartments was interesting. Most cars had a sign in the window with a phone number. My son saw me looking at the cars packed together in spots where most couldn't possibly get out - and said no, they aren't for sale - if you need to get your car out, you call that number and the owner will come out and move their car for you so you can get out.
I thought - no way in hell that would work here! you'd get rude messages along with the finger instead. Tough, I ain't moving my car for anyone.
Everyone was polite - minded their own business and a lot of rushing here and there, but not at the expense of anyone else. Your peers would punish you and look down on you for being nasty.
On the trains and subways, there was 0 hesitation if someone needed to get through or an older person or woman came in and the seats were full - a seat would be instantly offered. (even though everyone on the subway had their face in a phone texting or whatever, they were aware of what was around them)

Bogota was always terrifying! Well, any South or Central American country -- which is why South Florida is a hellscape. People bring their old habits here.

On another note -- someone mentioned road-rage and keyboard warriors doing so because the layer of "security" between the turd. I'm a firm believer that people don't get smacked across the face near enough for being turds. Too many actions with too few consequences.

I will caveat my previous post to say YES...they are polite. I guess it's what they're raised in -- controlled chaos. 4 lines should mean 4 lanes but there it's like 6 or 7! The problem comes when we get folks who try to do that here in Miami. :| But Miami is a cesspool of me me me anyway. Drive to/from work and I continuously see >80% of people on their phones -- some even facetiming!

People Work?
No? Why would it be? I mean, it's been posted already.

I could suggest you take your own advice and "Maybe read the thread again"...
It would appear that my adblocker is being over-zealous.
Now I have to care enough to load it in another browser. Time will tell.

It's been years since I drove across the country. But I will always remember Texas. There was full empty lanes, but people would just race around each other close as can be.
And Florida pan handle, everyone would tailgate semis pretending that they were drafting in nascar.

Ooh, i like this game
How about:
1 week in Paris, with significant focus on the area around the Arc de Triomphe. You'll learn to appreciate the concept of knowing when to yield even without a sign
1 week in Cairo. You'll learn to appreciate that we have rules enforcement over here.
1 week in Hanoi. You'll learn to respect motorcycles (though Paris helps with this)
1 week in Mumbai. You'll learn to appreciate what traffic really is. And also have an unsatiable desire to carry a pair of long reach dykes for snipping the horn of every idiot around you at all times. They all just honk... all the time. They honk at red lights. It's insane.
My wife travels to India for work. She told me she has seen 5 lanes of traffic on a 3 lane road and that every one uses their horns as a tun signal. You hear a hor, they are coming over. LOL Problem is evryone is using their horn so it is a madhouse. No thanks.

What I find ironic is that the Indians who are here in the USA seem to drive totally opposite of back home. They drive like Grandpa in Florida in the left lane and 5 MPH below the speed limit.

I suspect it relates to the cultural shame associated with any interaction with the courts. I’m assuming it is an overwhelming desire to avoid getting stopped at all costs. I’m guessing that’s not happening in Mumbai, or anywhere else you have 3 billion cars.

Yes, at least in some places I've been. There's little problems like that because it's a societal shame thing. The law doesn't necessarily have to deal out the punishment, your peers will.
I suspect some of that punishment - being ignored, shunned and worse, is worse than some of the punishment here for bigger things.

I really enjoyed working with so many people from all over the world when at CCC and PFG.

OMG...Cairo! That is the worst I have ever seen. Our hotel was right next to the Great Pyramid. Our driver was taking us to our work location on the adjacent street, which was probably 5 lanes wide in each direction. There were cars at least 6 lanes wide, donkey carts, and pedestrians all moving down the street... pedestrians walking down the center of the traffic as if it was a sidewalk...!?!?!?!

Never would I drive a vehicle there...lol

That's the "Middle East" in general. Drive down a sidewalk or path along the road and push in and across. I don't think I saw more than a half-dozen undamaged vehicles - scrapes along the sides, bumpers busted, trunks pushed in, whatever. Whatever the official street width is, add at least 1 or 2 lanes for those driving alongside waiting to push in where there's more than 10 centimeters gap. And of course sheep being herded down the road......

As has rudeness, selfishness, sticking one's nose into everyone else's business, and trying to control everyone else. This breeds anger and intolerance from those who have been calm and tolerant.

(I am in no way excusing the asshat in the video for his road rage and total lack of situational awareness.)

It's not just on the highway - how many instances of "air rage" have we seen lately? A lot, way too many. And my wife and I agree - we're not likely to fly unless there's little choice - not because of anything except other passengers who are entitled moron asses. Arguing over assigned seats, PO'd over the smallest of things, misbehaving and causing a ruckus instead of sitting like adults, they act like a 3 year old - who has an excuse, they are so young as to not know any better.
