yes. It was a 1998 IIRC. We had the SLT trim with leather, second row AC, third row seating and the 5.9L V8. She was a gas hog. We didn’t do a lot of hard-core off-roading with it, but it took me everywhere I needed to go. It was a great family car, but we were too poor to keep up with it when things started failing and the rust was the death knell. I hardly see any of them on the road around here anymore. They aren’t like the GMT800s that just refuse to die.

That makes much more sense, thanks. That's when they were based on the Dakota and more truck than SUV.

The GMT800s are the last of the do anything, anywhere, all the time trucks. Modern GM trucks are mechanical and electrical nightmares. Both of my sisters have Yukon XLs and my dad has a Sierra Denali. They spend too much time in the shop, more than my BMW.

Jeep isn't innovating?

What about the new 3.0L supercharger kits Mopar just announced, and the Bumblebee TRX thing? 900 horsepower and a factory warranty??? Raptor have anything like that that doesn't sound like a bag of angry bumblebees?
Jeep/Stellantis/Mopar is just fine.
And let's not forget all those other companies are offering "poser" off-roaders. We have a straight axle, so Jeep is the only one that is true to its beginnings.

The frustrating part is who, and how Jeep is managed. I do not care if they hear me or see my words. Stellantis sucks. They suck bad. They only see spread sheets, and do not understand their customers. The have a great product that sells itself with Wrangler and Gladiator. They think they can dazzle customers who want two doors, 35s, and v8s into shutting up with colors and stickers. Funny they do not even offer Red as a color anymore. The base no cost colors should be red, white, and blue. I am sick of the BS. No v8 because it might hurt someone's feelings at the tree hugging event, trying to electrify something that goes off the grid. Hello McFly, no electricity in the woods. How did electrifying go for Dodge? NOT WELL is the answer you should be saying. You took two cars that sold decently and replaced them with ev junk costing double. Chrysler has a minivan. Ram can't get a v8 in a 1500 truck. So you are nothing more than environmentalist posing as investors. Well, that shit does not work for me. I love my gladiator, but I can say the Stellantis group is nothing but a pile of shit. Get off my lawn suck bags.

Not an entirely accurate assessment. Our government mandated all those environmental changes, it wasn't the manufacturers. Our government mandated that a certain percentage of their fleet HAD to be electric, a certain percentage had to get a pre-defined higher mpg. If Jeep was so strong in being "environmental", they would've kept making the 4xe even after the government dropped the mandate. They dropped the EV mandate, Jeep dropped the 4xe.

They were just following the ridiculous mandates our illustrious government thought up.

Firecracker Red is definitely an option for color (just went to the Jeep web site).

Our government mandated that a certain percentage of their fleet HAD to be electric, a certain percentage had to get a pre-defined higher mpg. If Jeep was so strong in being "environmental", they would've kept making the 4xe even after the government dropped the mandate. They dropped the EV mandate, Jeep dropped the 4xe.

Ya mean like setting the gap on your points using a matchbook cover ? Yep, done that. Many times. In your parts box you had a spare rotor, points and condenser, wrapped in bubble wrap and taped up. Also kept a small nail file to sand down the points.

One day at work I was checking out my motorcycle carbs. A young building engineer that I knew came up and asked what I was doing. I told him that it looks like this weekend I have to sync my carbs. He did the head tilt like when you make a funny sound in front of your dog. I asked, "Carburetors ? Y'know, like on your lawnmower ?" and I point to a carb. He bends over to look then says, "Our lawnmower runs on batteries.".

We're doomed.

The problem is that all the environmental mandates are under the assumption that the majority of cars are small and economical, but the way the CAFE rules work incentivizes manufacturers to build bigger trucks and SUVs that are judged under less strict emissions criteria. We are getting to the point where nobody wants to build small cars (with small profit margins) to offset the brands fleet mileage, and they instead push more and more expensive and dubious technology onto the bigger vehicles to make them marginally more economical.

Still have one in mine for the points on my well pump. Had to dig to find it initially but it’s in my well pump bag now, along with a new in package pressure switch and some barrel type fuses.

My last "real Jeep" was my 1954 Willys M38A1. The seats were the perfect innovation for Jeep seats. OD duck canvas, actual metal springs for "bounce", for padding it had horse hair. No foam, no artificial padding. Horse hair. When it rained, the seats got soaked but dried relatively quick. The only drawback was when I got to school, the people around me had a tendency to check the soles of their sneakers. I stunk BAD. My friends had a habit of putting down towels even after I warned them, "that ain't gonna help". When they complained I said the same thing every time, "You always have the option of walking.".

I had a military surplus canvas top, side curtains and canvas doors (also stinky OD duck canvas), but they stayed behind the rear seat most of the time. Yes, the doors collapsed and folded. I kept the top attached to the windshield, it has a hemp rope sewed into the edge of the top and you had to feed it through the channel on the windshield frame, a royal PITA. So I flipped it over the windshield, rolled it up and put the windshield down. That windshield was ALWAYS down.

Here's a pic for reference about the top, I was 16 (and taking the pic). My friends are the fat kid holding the volleyball, we've been best friends since we were 7, still are to this day (and he's a LOT fatter). The Asian girl on the hood was my girlfriend, she's no longer with us, she committed suicide about 4 years ago, shocked us all. We remained friends all these years. Her large family is sprawled all over the Jeep, that happened quite often when I pulled up; everyone loved climbing on that thing.

When I was in the Marines, my Dad wrote me a letter and said, "I sold your Jeep !!!". I shook the letter, no check fell out. The title was in my name, but we have the exact same name, no Sr. or Jr. (I was technically the 3rd, Dad was Jr. but not official). When I called him that Saturday (our routine, no cell phones or emails back then) I asked about the check. He said one word, "Seriously ??".

That Willys was the original Mud Pie.
