Enjoy your Jeep! If they delivered vehicles like Amazon delivers packages the destination charge would be astronomical! :)

I said “Could you relate to our quarter track tape? You know the band performs in the nude?”
He said NUH UH don’t call us, child, we’ll call you.

Well Congrats ! I have been telling people there weren't a whole lot of '23s to choose from earlier in the year (last year). I hope you got the 15% off and a little extra off the top for waiting so long.

Back in the day, Customer orders were built first. Now the manufacturers don't give a chit.

I have my doubts that was ever the case that customer orders were queued up first. They always seemed to be sprinkled in with normal production as option parts availability allowed.

I'm so thankful I took delivery of my 21 JTR just 3 weeks after ordering.

That's been my experiences with AMC and even going forward.
Dealers wait, too - however, there is some advantage to some dealers who sell enough vehicles and that's part of the reason some sell at all but a loss to get volume.
(had that discussion with my sales guy)

Seriously, this whole thread title needs to be changed, to be corrected.

Current title/subject:
Jeep is holding my truck on the shipping lot for no reason

This is the new subject or title I propose -
I have no idea how the logistics and processes of ordering, manufacturing or shipping works and I'm pissed about it.

No one ever holds anything for "no reason". And who said it was in a lot and not off to the side to deal with something found during inspection?

there's a ton involved in just the shipping process (ask any professional truck driver who has hauled either new cars/trucks or hauled them for owners across the country)

The logistics, as i call it, maybe improperly of manufacturing - contracting for, obtaining parts, shipping the parts in, inventory, transport of said parts from location A to B.
I've pictures - somewhere - of a semi loaded with rear axle assemblies being transported from one AMC building location to another for assembly into cars. Just moving those from Building A in this city to building B across town takes some recordkeeping and trucking.
These Jeeps come as subassemblies from other buildings and even other corporate entities. Frames, bodies, axles (from Dana) and so on.
There's a shortage of truck drivers in some areas. That doesn't help (friend is a professional driver - he's got some stories to tell)

So the real title is "I don't understand how manufacturing and shipping works and it makes me mad" or something like that.

Don't have doubts. In the 70's and 80's orders were written , and sent to the manufacturer. Units that were getting built for a dealer customer went right in to be built. We received some units in as little as 6 weeks. Some express orders, we could see in 4 weeks. All depended on what and where they were being built. The 90's when orders were sent by the computer , things began to slow up due to the increase in order volume. I worked in the auto industry for 34 years, at the zone level and dealer level, hell you could even call the factory back then to check on an order and maybe get it faster. I retired in 2011, so I'm not familiar with the ordering now.
