Sorry you had to deal with all that. I went through all those aux battery/ESS problems 6 months in to my 2021 Glad. Jeep ended up replacing both batteries under warranty after many trips to the dealer. Next time I have battery issues that lead to replacement, I’m shelling out the cash for the Genesis system and be done with it.

Glad I read this thread.
My wife drives a 2020 JL Rubicon Diesel. I drive it once a week when we make our supply run. Started noticing info center saying "aux switches unavailable" right after startup and "ESS unavailable" randomly. ESS has been turned off since day one first by hand then Tazer. Should I use ESS periodically? Are one or both of my batteries on their way out? Thanks in advance for any advice.
This is normal if the vehicle is not driven regularly. Using ESS has no effect on battery charging. There is a constant draw from the computers, alarm, and head unit. If it is only driven once a week, it would be a good idea to get a battery maintainer to keep them charged. They can last longer, but expect to replace both batteries every three years.

I drive mine only once or twice a week.

I'm at that 3 year mark now (only 20,6xx miles) so now, I'm on the watch for it.

I never use the ESS anyways...that's the next button pushed after I start my vehicle. So, hopefully that will buy me some time before mine shytes the bed ? ? ?

Not using ESS may possibly help the batteries last longer. Occasionally, I get distracted and forget, but I have always turned it off. I've been looking at replacements, but I have over three years on the original set of batteries and they are still going.

The Jeep is driven daily. For clarity, I drive it once a week.
mall batteries should be connected to the charging system all the time and it shouldn’t matter if ESS is beingused or not I would think. Also Jeep has 45k miles, is two years old and driven daily

Yes, the batteries are paralleled together all the time, except during an ESS event (engine off). Charging is not affected by ESS use. If it is driven daily, and the unavailable messages are popping up, I would anticipate that the batteries will need replaced soon. I would see if you can get them tested, it may be that just one of the batteries is failing.

It's battery replacement time. You're past the 3/36, so warranty won't cover it. The dealer will charge you anywhere from $500 to $900 to replace both batteries.

Go to Autozone and get a AUX14 for the ESS battery, and then to Costco or Sam's Club for the 94R (H7) primary battery.

There are several threads with some videos in the Battery section on swapping the ESS battery.
The batteries only last 3 years and under 60k miles?

The batteries are covered under the 3/36 warranty. There have been many reports of the ESS batteries failing sooner. The batteries can last longer, but expect to replace them every three years. I have over three years on my original set of batteries. The at rest voltage is slowing dropping, so I anticipate having to change them in the near future.

I don't care how long the battery last I'm not using auto start/stop.

I love my Tazer and will unmarry it and move it to my next Jeep.

That sounds pretty easy. No other tricks you had to do?
Nope ... the positive from the AUX redirects up to the main positive. It essentially runs the wires same as the Genesis dual battery system, but with only our single battery main. It is a bit tight but will reach the main. I almost ran a jumper down into the AUX compartment, but ended up making it fit. I have been running this way for about 6 months now. There are a few in the JL group that have been doing this for a while. The system works completely normal other than if you cycle the ESS system six times it will activate a fault. The fault clears and the system resets at the next start cycle. Why there is a six cycle count makes no sense to me?, but I rarely cycle the system 6x.

There is a weird and almost toxic relationship between the AUX and main battery ... they are simply ran in parallel, but there must be something within the management system that eventually kills the AUX and then can take out your main. the inability in these scenarios to jump the vehicle off the main is a failure on Jeeps part and why I opted to chuck the AUX. There are many threads on this that you can read at nauseam. I spend way too much time off grid to have to worry about a no start situation caused by the AUX system.

If you are putting heavy loads on the battery system I would suggest a hard look at the Genesis Dual Battery Kit. Also be very vigilant when conducting any type of rewiring ... check and double check your work.

Here is an image of my AUX lead to the main battery .... the lead does stack onto another lead that needs to be flipped over as it is tabbed. I added additional shrink wrap and cloth tape to insulate.

If the two batteries are not isolated from one another, the stronger will eventually kill the weaker. Dueling battery syndrome

For ESS battery, i recommend this below. This brand comes factory on all Honda power sports and motorcycles. I used these on my vintage and modern bikes without issues.

It works great on the bikes, as that is what it's designed for. It's the same capacity as the ESS battery, but it is not a AGM battery.
