I've seen people running 37s claim they get 16-17 w/ stock gears. Now I'm thinking they are probably running AT. If I knew this sooner I would've went with ridge grappler...

You can't calculate it based on one fill up. Not with these fuel tanks.
These are the most inaccurate as far as telling when they are full based on the nozzle.
My read-out is really quite close to reality, and the odometer I have found to be spot-on.
But I have to keep squeezing the nozzle to ensure I fill it fully and average out at least 2 or 3 fills.
With my cars and other Jeeps, when it's full, it's full and you can see the gas up there. On these it will shut off when there's anywhere from 2 to 3 gallons of space left.
I've been wondering if this is part of the reason why my mpg calculation can vary 1-2 mpg from one fill up to the next. I'll have to keep an eye on the visible fuel level next time.

I'll add a little data to this...

Stock Overland with JTR Wheels and tires...I averaged 16.6 mpg over 5 months of driving.
Switched back to my Stock Overland wheels and tires over the last 4 fill ups, I am averaging 21.1 MPG.

It was one of the biggest reasons I got rid of the JTR Wheel and Tires.

Or they "remember" things differently, or they tell themselves something and soon come to believe it. I ran across an old link that related to a documentary I watched on human memory and how it is influenced (and often wrong)

But then, with MPG - it's all a matter of THAT truck, THAT terrain, THAT person's driving habits, THAT person's tire inflation, speeds driven, ambient air temperatures, the gas itself, and as we in Iowa know - the wind speed and direction of the day. It will be windy, just from which direction and how much over 5 mph will it be.

What kind of gears you got. I got 4.10 gears max tow I get around 19 average on 35's.l BFG KO2s. My buddy gets right at 18 on cooper 37's and he gets right at 19 on his trips to the beach. It comes down to driving habits. Mine does great as long as I keep it under 80. On the interstate it does best between 60-75, anything over 75 I don't gain or lose, over 80 it starts dropping unless it's super flat. I'm shopping for 37's right now and not planning a regear. I'm looking to stay under 75lbs a piece on the tires. The weight of a tire and size have to be taken into account when your thinking about what kind of setup to run if your thinking about mpgs as well as towing. I'm looking at the Kanati Trail Hogs in a 37, 69lbs and the Nexen ROADIAN MTX in a 37, I'm still waiting on confirmation on exactly how much the Nexens weigh, online it says between 38 and 39lbs which I know can't be accurate

Yes, mine varies greatly depending on wind direction and speed, traveling speed, and terrain. I keep a running average and over 21,000 miles with city, country at 55, interstate at 80, mountains and even pulling a small trailer a few times my LE Rubicon has averaged 15.6MPG. I think that is a good representation of what to expect with a 2" Mopar lift and 315 C rated tires. We'll see when the new Blue Rubicon gets built the way I want it if the MPG is similar!!

Absolutely. My cars - I can actually SEE or hear the gas at the top of the fill neck. My wife's WK2 I can tell when it's full - gas is right up there next to the fuel door if I keep tweaking it.
My truck will usually shut off around the 18.5 mark. I can usually get 20 in it, at times over that. So if I rely on when the nozzle shuts off, I may have the ability to put in 1 more, 2 more, even 3+ more gallons of gas.
Few gas station lots around here are level - so I try to sit the truck next to a pump with right side of the truck lower otherwise I can't get even 18.5 in it.
This is the absolute worst vehicle I have ever owned as far a filling the fuel tank. You can't rely on when the nozzle shuts off as with mine, there's ALWAYS more room, sometimes gallons more. When my wife's Grand Cherokee kicks the nozzle off - there's very little more I can get into it - MAYBE half a gallon, if I want it to dribble out, a bit more.

~1500 miles on the clock and a good portion of that is off roading with some highway miles to get there and I am at 17-18.

I expect to get a bit better. Will be taking some extended highway trips soon and will what happens.

stock 4.10s. I understand there are multiple factors when it comes to MPG but I can't believe what you & your friends are getting....Pats are relatively lighter than most of M/T in the same size and I thought Michigan is flat.... I get 13 city / 15 highway when I am going easy on gas pedal to get the best mpg....! I will be very happy if I can get 16 avg.

10,000 miles on the odometer, I get about 16.5 city with winter blend on 35x10.5 kenda klevers. Thats with a 8speed and 3.73 factory gears and rubicon shocks and springs. If I get on a long stretch doing 60 it will go up to 17.5 and about an mpg better in the summer.

With speedometer corrected of course.

That's right after I added the bumper.

The video is before I added the steel bumper to the front. Once I added the steel full width bumper I closed the gap to the fenders back up and my MPGs went back up to 19. Right now running winter gas I'm around 18.5

Stock rubicon 12.8mpg
How does one obtain mpgs that bad in a stock Rubicon JT, that is crazy. My 2010 JKU with the 3.8 on 37's got 13.3mpgs average with 3.73 gears and lifted 4-1/4 inches. O my mpgs were that bad I'd be second guessing keeping mine personally
