Thats right.... a controlled explosion. If it wasn't a controlled explosion, we wouldnt get the power stroke (3rd stroke) on a 4 stroke engine. The energy produced in a power stroke after all can be considered an explosion IMO.It had better not explode in there. That's not how internal combustion engines work.
It's a controlled burn process. There is ignition, then a flame front progresses across the chamber until all of the mixture is burned.
Explosions are trouble.
