That’s right, the Come Along Winch. No installation needed, no power draw from our vehicles, and no aftermarket bumpers required, just 10,000 lbs of muscle ,11.5 feet at a time.

$49.99 vs $1000.00

I haven't either yet, but I'm not willing to get a powered winch but still want some kind of recovery option if I find myself alone and stuck.

Why aren’t you willing to get a powered winch? It’s probably one of the most needed items. You should have if you’re doing any sort of four wheeling. One of the first items you should get.

Been doing freestyle for several years never had a need, and of the people I know that are more serious than me have never even used the winches they have... would be a lot of money and weight to haul around just in case, at least for me.

I have used a come along for off road 40 yrs ago.... They do work but I'm too old for that now, My sub $500 dollar HF Apex 1200S winch has served me well the past few years.

I've gotten unstuck more than a few times with one of those in the past, using one of the straight pull kinds not the kind with the pully on the end. Twice the speed. All it usually took was a short pull to get past whatever had me stuck or to get a wheel back on the trail. I have also used it to pull out dented fenders and front ends. Always in my vehicle was a come along, a heavy 25 ft chain, and a tool kit that included a hammer.

I've loaded cars onto trailers, moved stuck cars or small tractors, etc. with one of those. I keep one in the toolbox on my trailer.

This was my prior trailer, before the tilt-bed. Loaded and unloaded this car using that device.

Also used one in the middle of a hurricane to straighten out a tree that was leaning toward the my roof of my house. They do work no doubt.

What do you do if it's 28 feet away from anything?

Better than nothing but way too much work. Tow straps are ok, until you're stuck somewhere more open. I've used the full 90' of winch line, 100' winch line extension, and a 30' rope to reach the nearest tree out snow wheeling more than once. With the 11' working limit you need your rigging to be exact or at least within 5' to get any kind of meaningful pull. The 1st time you NEED your winch it has paid for itself in labor, frustration, and time.

Agreed but I'm pretty mild in my off roading and seldom alone, this at least gives some capability.
