Just bought a new to me 22 Gladiator Sport (3.73).
Went from the OEM tires to 33" BFGs and wondering if I should go to 4.30 or 4.56?
Even though it rides and drives OK, its a bit sluggish and shifts back n forth between 7th and 8th gear at regular highway speed (60mph).
Its a weekend back-roader and doubt it will see too much off-roading... Not too concerned with mpg because its not my daily driver but also don't want everything spinning unnecessarily fast if not needed.

My mojave came with 4.10s and 33s. Seemed like a great combo but I wouldn't spend the money to go from 3.73 to 4.10s. It's go 4.56 so that you'll still have plenty of gear if you decide to go to 35s or even 37s eventually.

Do you plan on getting any kind of lift or do they fit ok?

I wouldn't even consider regearing. 33" tires and 3.73 will be fine, especially in Florida.

The question is did you recalibrate your speedometer? You need to do that when you change tire size from factory/stock. That may be why you shift points are off.

@Heavy D just do a quick search online, and you should be able to quickly find a chart for the gearing ratios for the pentastar v6 for an auto JL ( if you haven’t already ). As others have stated, you’re probably fine.

I didn't regear for the 37's. 4.56s would be better for my driving style than the 4.10s, but not enough so to spend $3k on it. Our jlur is on 39s with 4.56s and has no problem pulling mountain grades at 60+ or cruising down the freeway at 85mph all day. Same goes for the mojave on 37s and 4.10s. If I need more power I'll throw in a supercharger. If I need more gearing I'll downshift.

Opinions on gearing are going to be all over the place. I recently re-geared my Rubicon (with 32.8" OEM tires) from 4.10 to 4.56 for the same reason you stated about it shifting so much in that 55-60mph range. It isn't that 4.10 was bad but I wanted some more. I haven't yet had a chance to try it out the interstate (i.e., above 70mph) but it has been great everywhere else. 4.56 does limit my cruising speed. By calculation, 80mph is about 2500rpm so I consider that my max cruising speed. If you want to go faster than that, don't do 4.56 with 33" tires.

Regearing is not an inexpensive mod but 3.73 to 4.56 is a big enough change that you'll definitely notice it.

This is why I'm considering 4.30 instead of jumping to the 4.56... and thank you for the input.

You don’t need to do anything like that !
