$100 at a ham fest. I had no idea how much it cost.

This little compact and inexpensive unit works quite well as my trail ham. Much better than my yaesu handheld, as expected.

How’s your SWR on that comet 2x4sr? Mine wasn’t that good in that spot.

Probably not great. But I only use it for trail com with my group so I never checked. Also didn't have many option with the way the rig is built out.
Oh ok. I keep trying different antennas but the best one for SWR and receive signal quality is my Larsen NMO270.

I've used just about every dual band amateur NMO mount antenna and the open coil Larsen NMO270 is the best of them all for maximum range.

I got the Compactenna to try but RX has a lot of noise. Didn’t bother to check SWR on it.

I've done a lot of testing with COMPACtennas and they work surprisingly well for their size. The newer versions for 2m/440, multiband scanner and multiband LMR are about 9" long and work about as good as a full size 1/4 wave whip on each band. That's very remarkable that a 9" antenna will hold its own against a 19" whip on VHF. The older versions that are about 7" long have slightly worse performance on VHF.

The COMPACtennas also work well with less ground plane than most other antennas like at the edge of a roof or trunk lid and their VSWR on VHF is actually high if you mount it in the middle of a roof. The only drawback I find with them is they are very stiff with no spring, so you have to consider a mounting location that is not likely to hit something.

I'll add that the COMPACtenna are not super high performance long range antennas like a 3 or 4ft tall colinear type and as I mentioned expect full size 1/4 wave performance on each of their bands. I do find they work really well in hilly locations or at the base of a mountain with a repeater on top where higher gain antennas will give a lot of rapid fading or picket fencing, the COMPACtennas seem to have less deeper drop outs and provide a more constant signal level.

I have absolutely no issues with the Diamond 770. On my JK, it's
mounted on the drivers side rear corner armor. I have talked from Potts Mountain, VA back to our clubs 2M repeater in Madison, NC. That's a 175 mile trip. In full disclosure I was about half way up the trail and using 50W but I was receiving the repeater with close to full quieting, which was why I even decided to try a QSO. Later that day, I had a QSO on 2M simplex to a VWA station for a Parks on the Air contact.

That was proof enough to me that I have a decent antenna. I run that antenna on all my vehicles.

here's mine
Thanks for sharing. I installed the overhead Molle a few weeks ago and am planning to install both a GMRS and CB soon.

Have most of the parts ordered except two. Hoping you can help with 2 quick questions:

1. What are the mounts for attaching the integrated control mics to the Molle?

2. What are the mounts you bought. To attach the GMRS to the molle?

FWIW, the Midland GMRS that I purchased was the MTX575. And the CB I bought was the Uniden 505. I had the Uniden 520 in my JKUR and that worked great.

If you can share links to the mounts that you bought, it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Yup, that's pretty sick. Most people will say you've gone too far. I say you have finally arrived, congratulations!

FYI. I found the microphone mounts that I can stick to the overhead Mille panel.

https://a.co/d/b83Nwmi

Still looking for a way to attach the mount that comes with the Uniden505 to the overhead Molle.

please send me the link if you can

re the Midland 575, I don’t know if the mount that comes with it can be flipped upside down. So that I can mount it to the overhead Molle.

For those who have attached the 575 to an overhead molle, can u share the hardware you bought to make it happen?

Thanks!
