I've been debating moving up to a larger tire from my current 37 X Comp m/t's. I think I'm going to prefer an all terrain over a mud terrain. I think since I'm going to stay with stock axles the smarter move would be the 38" Nitto Ridge Grapplers. I don't want to "dump" like $50K into this truck because I may possibly get a AMW truck in the future.

NOTE: (differences in tire weights)
-The weight from the Nitto 38 to a 40 is significant
-The weight difference between the 2 40's is also significant- and they are both M/T's

Nitto Ridge Grappler 38x12.5r17 = 82 lbs
Nitto Trail Grappler 40x13.5r17 = 111 lbs
Mickey Thompson 40x13.5r17 (Baja Boss M/T) = 92 lbs
Cooper STT Pro 40x13.5r17 = 92 lbs

WHY are the nitto 40's so heavy? I believe they are all load C tires

That is the S3 (single swing version) for the JT from ExpeditionOne. The bumper and swingarm are insanely beefy. Sadly, it's also insanely 'spendy' - looked at it for a long time, but finally pulled the trigger when they had free shipping around Valentine's day 22. Expect a long wait if you order.. like 6 months! But it finally arrived in perfect condition, and very well packaged / protected.

Hey there Mark,

Don't mean to be snooping but I happened to do a search of the Expedition One bumper and came up on this post. I have been eyeing this for the past few days since its 20% off and a $100 shipping credit, and am thinking about pulling the trigger.

Do you have any additional pics of the bumper mounted? Thank you!

One of the earlier builds we worked on while testing our 3.5" system with 40s a few years back!

Is this with the stock standard width axles? Looks like a sport from the grill and rear bumper, but with the rubi flares? How much backspacing did you have to run to not rub if they are the standard width axles? Thanks!

Yes! Standard axles, aftermarket flares, 4.75" backspacing with our kits :like:

How are you liking the Patagonia XT? I’ll be getting the same tire installed on my black JTRD this Saturday. Seeing some mixed reviews so far.

Brother that looks unreal. Can we get some side shots of that beast? I have the same RSE sliders and wanting to do the nemesis flares to make room for (cough cough) 42s or 44s when Mickey Thompson finally releases the new tires. I have been hounding them for almost a year now with no release date. Just looking to see how the flares flow with the sliders. Thank you.

Thank you @Blackdmax15
My steed is in the shop having a couple things done, unfortunately.. or else I'd go out on the driveway and snap some more pics. I was able to dig up this one from the side [before I did the maximus-3 roll bar and cargo deck] but you're looking at the 'flow' of the Nemesis fenders w/ the RSE steps/sliders I think they are spot on man! I was initially concerned how that would look as well, but just chose to trust my shop and see how they came out. Totally happy.
*supposedly my phone has one of the best cameras out there, but still I manage to snap off horrible pictures.. hopefully if you zoom in on this you can see. It's like those flares were meant to be coupled with the RSE sliders.

Project will be somewhat done this next week. Tying up loose ends as I’m on a work trip so the remaining pieces should be home by the time I get home. This phase was:

Nitto 40x13.50r17 TrailGraps on a cheap 17” wheel
RK 4.5” lift kit with their shocks
Dynatrac XD60s 72.5” wide with 5.13s and e lockers
AntiRock rear sway bar
J.E. Reel driveshafts
Empty wallet…

I echo Camaroboil3 in saying my previous 37” KM3s and the ecodiesel put up 21-23ish around town easily. Love the ecodiesel. I’m afraid 5.13 may be too deep for 40s, but already warned the wife I’ll just it 42s on if I need to de-gear it haha.

what backspacing are these wheels? have you checked clearance on full turned flex?

im doing same width axles and this is narrower than I expected which is good.

Wheels are 17x8.5 and 5.5” backspacing. That is the largest that dynatrac will fit as it will hit the knuckle and I can’t even fit my pinky fingernail in there. I am probably going with a 5 or 4.75” backspacing on the next set of beadlocks. Again these were cheapies for temp use, and there is Zero rubbing anywhere. Maybe because it’s a RK 4.5” lift which is fairly tall. I have flexed it out and haven’t trimmed a thing. Definitely recommend. Only complaints are 5.13s instead of 4.88s but I found them in stock so I just dealt with it. Also I have the ecodiesel. Feel free to hit me up with any questions I have been meaning to do a write up and show how I installed the Anti-rock with the XD60s and pass on the gouge.

good timing on this. I just posted a thread on my next jump id love for you to jump into the discussion mine is a diesel as well. Motobilt convinced me that I wanted 4.88s for my specific goals. I almost jumped on a set of dynatracs I found for a good discount by they were only 68" wide and im trying my absolute best to run high offset for turning and scrub.

RK was pretty concerned I might have contact if I went with an offset like yours and did their front coil over. how close as the tire to hitting fender or control arms?
