Nobody gets to define what a "real" Jeep is.

The fastest four-wheeler I've driven, and I've driven a lot, is a supercharged Ariel Atom with a four-banger. From then on, all arguments about how "real" cars have a V8 were null and void. And I've made the claim before, I was wrong.

Our Z4 35is BMW is stupid fast, but just a straight 6. There's a certain something awesome, and unique, about the straight six in a sports car.

I'm no GT40 expert, but I don't remember a single one having a "5.0L N/A V8", nor the Ford GT. Still unsure how manhood is affected by cylinder count, but the 660 Horsepower output of the 3.5L HO 6 Cylinder in the current GT is impressive.
The GT40's came in several "Marks" (models) based on production years, and had everything from a 255 V8, up to a 427 big block (all N/A = Naturally-Aspirated). Included in that lineup is the 5.0 (4.942L) 302 small block...

The MK1 had a 7L DFV while the MK2 had a 4.9L DFV derived from the stock mustang V8 but not a 302. Alloy everything, alloy everything else, twin cam, 4 valve, twin quads. On par with comparing an L88 chevrolet engine to any other stock chevrolet engine from the period.
Actually, the 4,942cc (4.942L) engine was 302 cubic inches...

Dude, don't even bother, it's a waste of time with him. In every thread, if it's not a knuckle-dragging big block V8, it means it comes with a free purse for your balls. The dude is completely disconnected from modern technology.
You have no idea what you're talking about. I don't even own a truck or vehicle with a big block V8... All of mine are/have been built small blocks, diesels, Ford 5.0L Coyotes, and the Jeep V6. But I'm glad you can make some assumptions. ;)

If I'm so disconnected from modern technology, please enlighten me on how I'm wrong about the displacement of a V8 will produce more power than the smaller displacement of an equally-built V6 tuned to the same specs (just minus 2 cylinders). :like:

Sorry to participate in the de-rail of this thread. I am of the opinion that the Gladiator is a "real" Jeep. I'm the definitive authority, as I grew up on CJ's :CWL::rock:

I thought the MKI had a 289 and the MKII is when they went to the 427?? Also, you wouldn't refer to an L88 when discussing a 350...
I got the mks mixed up. They started prototype with the 255, series production went to 289 and then specials were built into 302s with trick bits. Then they had the 427 dfv which was outlawed with the displacement cap which birthed the 302.

Point being v8s were the king shit engine at the time, later the italians and germans made much hay with v12's and later still the v10 has seen much service as of late.

Imagine going back in time with a GNX buick or a multirotor multi turbo wenkle and creeping around woodward. Yeah buddy i have a factory v6 that can pick a wheel off the ground or a "japanese" car that can spin to the frickin' moon and eat you alive in corners, stock.

Everyone loves an LS swap because it doesn't get much easier or simpler. Gobs of power but iI can get the same power from a boosted v6 in a lighter and smaller package.

But the 289 derived trick 4.9L is not the same as a off the plant floor Boss 302 engine. Kinda like trying to call a 307 with a 350 crank a small journal 327. Yes but no.

Oh we're in complete agreement on that. It was definitely not the same a production-floor 5.0 302. But the production 5.0L 302 was derived from it. :like:

But then you're discounting every stroker motor ever built... That's how you build strokers... You take a 350 block, punch it .030" over, stick a 400 small-block (3.75") crank in it, and you have a 383 stroker. You take the same build, but with .040" over pistons and you have a 388 stroker.

A Ford 429 SCJ and a Ford 460 use the same block and pistons, just a different crank.

See back to neutral corners.

You forgot the 400 block and 350 crank for a 377 over square long cam drag beast.

I had a CJ5 in High school and that was a true Jeep. As much as I loved that thing I am lucky my dad sold it cause I would probably died in that death trap. I have had several 4 wheel drives in the interim but I finally bought another Jeep in 2014 when I bought a Wrangler Unlimited. A lot of people said the Unlimited was not a real Jeep cause it had 4 doors and was less capable. Well maybe but a off road capable convertible that was practical to drive every day was something I wanted. When I needed a truck I bought a petty capable extended cab pickup with a convertible top sold by "Jeep".

V8? I have lived long enough now to have driven a lot crap V8s. I have driven a lot of 4 bangers that had a lot better power curve then some of those old V8s. Quite honestly I would love to have another 67 Camaro but my next one will be a retro ride with a modern crate engine with fuel injection and modern brakes. A modern V6 is a much better engine than an old V8 but hey....nostalgia.

Yes! Long ago in my earlier life, I bought a 1971 MB 280SL, stick shift, no A/C. Now not a "hot" engine, but smooth as silk. And the beautiful sound it made. Must have had straight-through glass packs as standard exhaust.

Rubitrux is a 2hr ride from me and they put Hemi's in pretty much every Jeep on their lot. Pricey, but I've driven one and if the JT with the 3.6 V6 puts a smile on your face, one with 6.4 would put a permanent smile on your face. I'd even settle for a 5.7, but I still think it's got enough power for it's class but hell this america and you know how we feel about American muscle......

ā€˜Since this thread is already off the rails I thought I’d stir the pot a little by correcting your last sentence..

ā€There’s a certain something awesome, and unique, about a flat 6 in a sports car...ā€ ;-)

Now you make me remember my 1974 260Z, with of course the standard for the time, a Cherry Bomb glasspack. Stick, but with AC. I live in AZ.

Probably true, but not familiar with them. I don't think I've driven one? Examples of cars with those? And yeah, thread derailment in full swing.
