I have a 2020 JT rubicon. It’s the first car I have owned with LED headlights. Driving in heavy snow was terrible. I actually turned around and went home because visibility was so poor because of the reflection of the bright white LEDs off the falling snow on the highway. On side roads with street lights it was ok but on the highway over 35mph it was rough.
I have read several posts on here that suggested yellow lights. I think I’m going to go that direction. First I need to decide what shape light and where to put them, then of course the actual light. I would really appreciate any recommendations and pictures of what you have done. I have never purchased aftermarket lights and doing some research I see there are different types, flood, spotlight, driving etc. I would love some feedback on what others have used in snow successfully. I think it’s between driving and fog lights but again I have no experience. I’m thinking I’m going to mount on the stock rubicon bumper but would be open to other ideas if something else works better.
Thanks
Chris

Diode dynamics and I believe Rugged Ridge are the two companies selling yellow fogs with the best output. Unfortunately they’re priced way too high for me. SS3 and Baja Designs are up there as well.

I have two Baja Designs LED Squadron driving/combo lights. These are spot/flood combos.

So far I'm really happy with them, and they're mounted on my front bumper. Light output is really good, and I've used them in snow and fog multiple times.

I love having my KC LED 6 with the yellow covers on them. They work great in fog or snow.

KC HiLites sells an SAE fog that also has a high beam built in. Two lights in one. Comes with plug and play harnesses for the fog light portion.

Just keep 'em aimed as otherwise you blind other drivers and end up with people wanting to shoot your lights out.
Keep in mind they are special purpose lights, not intended for normal running. Law enforcement won't give a rip - they are too busy, but other drivers will care (around here they'll even spin around and come up after you)

Remember, snow like that means SLOWER speeds, so selective yellow fogs will be the best answer - they'll keep you on the road at least. Don't expect to put in lights that let you drive at speed in the snow. I was stopped once for driving 55 in a 55.
"Too fast for conditions" was the citation.

I am NO fan of films. They literally cut light output by filtering out part of the light so in normal conditions you don't have the full luminosity. For lighting and other safety equipment, I'm a do it right, do it safe person. Film is "cool" and "cheap" but by its very definition, it removes part of the light making your lights dimmer - no matter what anyone says, it's scientifically not possible to put any film or filter on and not lose light output. It's a cheap shade-tree way to do it.

Your point about not blinding other drivers is a big one for me. I hate idiots with aftermarket lights that are too bright. That’s probably the main reason I never put aftermarket lights on. That is why I’m trying to figure out the correct light as well as the correct way to use them. When its snowing and your using an aftermarket light are you shutting off your head lights and just running parking \ taillights? If you leave your headlights on don’t you still get the bright glare \Reflection off the snow? I have heard fog lights might not be enough. I certainly wouldn’t be going 65 in heavy snow but 45 is probably safe.
Thanks
Chris

Just remember, IF you're going to run them ON the roadways, then make SURE they are DOT/SAE approved.

Cuz if you run into that ONE dickhead cop, you're going to get written up for everything he can write.

Me personally, I run a Baja Designs amber light bar on the front bumper. The little 10" one. I have turned my headlights off and had the light bar and the fogs and marker lights on.
You don't get the distance, but you can see without reflection.

I bought a JK light bar, and installed two Hella 450 amber fog lights (and a 550 driving light). The fog light beam is a nice rectangle spread, which is ideal for cutting through fog and snow. They’re hooked up to my aux switches. You will need shim stock if you go with a JK light bar.
