Related to this post as far as shipping... Anyone in your area notice a pick up in freight on trains? I have. A set of tracks next to a work site. Very long, loaded up train cars, 60 to 80 cars long, 3 locomotives. Every 45 minutes throughout the day. I never saw that much train activity here before. Seems the Pan-Am Rail Service is trying to pick up where trucking is lacking.

Also I have a product on back order to ship June 13th, I really have my hope that it is. Reading this post kind off makes me feel a bit bummed. We will see I guess, if Quadratec will come through. I received everything else as promised on time from them.
Actually rail is one of the main methods for moving shipping containers across the us. They aren't trying to pickup for the trucking cause trucks are not normally used for hauling shipping containers other than shorter distance or last leg I guess you would say. They are normally loaded up on rail cars at the ports and then moved across the US. But even rail can only move so many. They only have so much equipment and locos as well.

Lots of folks stuff is likely sitting at some port some place. Just can't get it as its likely not deemed essential so it sits waiting to work its way through all the backlog. I was talking to a person at my local fishing tackle supply place. They have stuff that they know its been sitting on the dock in California for a few months but they can't get it yet.

I was ordering falcon shocks from vivid racing they assured me they would shipin a few days I called teraflex there is a 5-6 month wait
I too had to get a refund from Vivid. In my case for showing a Quadratec dead pedal in stock (until they got my payment) and then saying it was 2 months out. Quadratec themselves moved the projected ship date back a month every month until they finally got them. Seems like these drop shipper's guesses are as good as ours as to when it will actually be available.

As long as the government pays better to not work, we'll have this issue.
This is a common misconception. Sure, some people just sit on their duffs and do nothing while their unemployment benefits come in. But when you actually look at what most unemployed people are doing, it's really not the case.

Unemployment benefits allow people to get out and look for a good paying job. It pays for child care while looking for a job. It allows them to buy new clothes for job interviews. It allows them to put gas into their cars to drive to interviews. It allows them to get haircuts for those interviews. It allows them to pay for food, rent and utilities while they look for work.

The issue is not that people don't want to work. The issue is people are tired of working for peanuts. Wages have not kept up with inflation. I often hear people say, "Raising the minimum wage will just cause prices to go up!". The reality is prices have already gone up and wages have not.

It's no coincidence that jobs which pay well are filled. Jobs which pay OK are mostly filled. Jobs that pay peanuts, and there are lots of them, go unfilled.

I recently saw a wanted ad which required a Master's degree for $15.00 an hour. Yeah, there's your problem. So, more accurately, as long as employers refuse to pay people a decent wage, we'll have this issue. Decades of corporate bean counters pouring over spreadsheets and saying, "We've got to get these labor costs down!" have caused this issue.

Well hell, since we're all sittin and bithin....

Real great Red Rock bed rails. Gret price and product over Mopar. Extreme Terrain, 4 months.... I asked for the order to be canceled and they showed up at my house following week.

Great product and to be fair, ET is a great truck and Mustang provider..

Maybe we should all reevaluate these inventories and late shipment issues in 6 MO. to a Year from now. Maybe majority of issue is related to the pandemic.

I worked part time in a public library for $10 per hour. That's about $100 take home per week.
Along comes COVID and I got called into HR for furlough. The HR director said that I did not qualify for regular unemployment as I was only part time but I did qualify for COVID unemployment. She gave me the web address and highly encouraged me to apply, saying "It may seem wrong but it'll feel so good." I wondered about that until I applied and was approved for the minimum payment - $189 per week, almost twice my wage.. Then, when the first check showed up, it was for $789 because Congress decided everyone needed an extra $600. So here I sat, making almost 8 times my salary. This went on for 3 months until I was offered my job back. I turned it down and stopped making weekly reports to unemployment, as I thought I was no longer eligible. Then a few weeks later, the emails started coming in from the Unemployment bureau. After I got three more, I called them. I told my story and was told that all I had two do was to say I was still afraid to work because COVID, and I could claim the $189 (the $600 was rescinded by then) for up to another nine months. At that point my conscience took over and I declined. I've been there. I could literally be making twice my hourly rate to sit here and argue with you.
Many states have stopped the COVID unemployment or have tightened the requirements. We'll see what happens after the gravy train stops.

But, you have your point of view and I , mine. We simply disagree. Peace.

In WA, the unemployment system is farmed out. COVID was a boon for them. Here, employers pay into the Unemployment Insurance system, not the employee. If your business is more prone to cyclical/seasonal growth and shrinkage (not from a pool - Seinfeld reference), you will have a higher UI tax rate.

I remember reading a story about how the WA UI contractor allowed millions of dollars go out from fraudulent claims (found a quick article: https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/crim...sted-accused-of-stealing-24350000/ar-BB1gPYwp).

Also, the payment for someone who claims unemployment is 1/2 their salary (for the past 6 months), which is better than nothing. There are other programs that you apply for to get gas and food, etc. They don't really help people who have better-than-average jobs. I was on it for a few months years ago and I had to repay a chunk (I forget the reason), sit through remedial classes, etc. Oh, your "benefits" are supposed to be for 6mo. Yet I know people who have been on it for years.

So there's a lot of issues in the unemployment industry.

Walmart and Amazon didn’t shut down the small business’ the people who live around the small business’ shut them down by not purchasing from them.
I get the sentiment but I can remember pre internet days of shopping and going around town wasting a day of looking for a semi-niche item that could not be found or was "3-4 weeks" to get in or just settling for and paying too much for something that was "close enough" but not exactly what I wanted.

Everybody likes to be nostalgic until it is time to pay the extra for it.

Agree 100% I am sick of wasting time driving to 3 different places to try and find something explaining what I need to people who don’t care and then after wasting half a day I order it online and have it in a few days.

Don’t think it is ....we will agree to disagree. There are a lot of really good paying jobs out there that cannot be filled. A lot happen to be trade/skilled jobs that quite frankly folks today don’t want. Let’s just say I am very familiar with a very large global manufacturing company. We cant get folks to stay or even show up.

Working your ass off and working your way up to better pay doesn’t fit the bill any longer apparently.

Once the pot of gold dries up, it will be interesting to see what happens.

Lets not forget that a little over 1 year ago we had the economy of envy in the world. Record low unemployment, GDP off the charts, etc, etc. Whats different a short 12 months later?

We have McDonald's offering $17 to start. They still can't find help. Your argument is not valid. I know for a fact the added unemployment IS a factor in folks not working. It is not up to hard working folks to pay for non working folks when there are 1000's of open positions. Take a job and prove your worth. Where I work we have excellent health benefits, better than most. We have decent wages, enough so that even our singles own their homes. We can't even get an application. I ain't buying your argument.

I operate a repair and retail shop that specializes in off road vehicles.

I gave up long ago with trying to satisfy the walk in client. I could have 1mil in inventory, still not have what a person was looking for due to so many choices, and even if I did have it.......I had to ask more than the internet for the item.

From my point of view, the people have done this to themselves. The big chains are the only ones who can survive this and we know how poor the service and product quality usually is at those establishments.

First the price has to be the cheapest, then it has to show "In stock", or people wouldn't place order from them. Its all bait, hook, and reel.......

I locked my front doors 3 years ago and operate by appointment only.......No more time wasters jerking my chain all day, I get home for dinner on time now, and I make more money.
Fascinating...
