With three pulleys, some static line and a few lag bolts I installed something like that in my prior garage rafters for storing my canoe and hoisting my RTT. Probably cost me $80 in materials and that's using rated climbing pulleys for strength.

The JT was too large to do it in that space but now that I've got a barn with a hoist beam at 13' I'm going to set it back up for the RTT.

The tent is the toughest lift. Flat lifting requires careful rigging, and it weighs a hazardous 165# because I got the expedition model with aluminum diamond plate decking and heavyweight canvas covering. I can't imagine the hard top is exceptionally heavy?

Jesus, $900 for that? I agree, could maybe make a DIY version for cheaper lol probably need specific angles though that aren’t commonly available to us normies lmfao
Considering I made mine for $137, I agree whole heartedly with you.

I was actually surprised how light it was, tbh. Before I got the itch to take it off, a co-worker told me they weigh about 300lbs, so... I over engineered my lift a little bit. I just looked it up. The site said less than 165lbs. I would guess less than 120lbs, unless at 44, I'm a hell of a lot stronger picking up awkward things than I was at 22.

I'm a new convert to Jeep and just this past weekend I built a hoist so I can remove the rear top by myself. It just got me thinking that there has to be a better way. Oh, if anyone is interested, I can put together instructions for the hoist.

So my efforts this weekend got me wondering about a collapsible hard top. I really like the look and qualities of the hard top vs a soft top. I was just curious if there is such a thing. I wouldn't think making a hard top that could fold yet still resemble a solid hard top with the sound deadening qualities would be that difficult. Do you think there would be a market for such a thing?

Jeep already has a patent for one: https://www.motorauthority.com/news...-gladiator-roof-panels-on-a-bed-tonneau-cover

Yeah that tonneau cover patent one by Jeep is rad but that was two years ago and ain’t shit has come out about it since, not even on a EJS concept so idk if that’s coming for this version of Gladiator or will be a next gen thing 🫠

Looking at the design, I just see a lazy engineer. All they did was take an existing top and chop it up. That is not innovative, it's what a hunter does with a deer, butchery! (I support hunting).
After my current design work for my truck, I think I may tackle designing a better "storable" hard top.

Surely someone like gr8tops would be able to make something like that (but would likely get sued by Jeep due to that patent so probably won’t 🙃). We’re awaiting our new Tuscadero JTW but I’d kill to have a hard top that just stores in the bed while toolin around town lol

That being said, I do have ambitions of building an over landing rig once we’re back in the states…so the top won’t come off much after that lol

When I had a backyard that I could drive between the two trees I just used them for hardtop hoist. Now I built a wood gantry crane with 4x4s few 2x8 and 2x4s with hand winch. Right now my R.T.T. is setting under it on concrete blocks. Luckily I built it before the wood shortage 🙄🙄 shenanigans. I need to take it down, paint and add a few more boards to it.

I'm using an old synthetic winch line for main line. The block in lower corner is under that leg to level it.
