'Service the transmission" on a Manual transmission? Wow.

How many miles are on it? Is there a clutch plate depth sensor?

I would take it to another dealer for diagnostics. I would guess that the clutch is worn down and needs replacement. Depending on your miles and driving habits.

84000 on the odometer, 20000 on the clutch. Yeah manual transmission, really just an electronic simulation of a manual transmission.

It's a real manual transmission with too many sensors attached going through a computer.

Sounds silly, but did you check your fuses?

No it's not a real manual transmission in my opinion based on what manual transmissions used to be.

OK. You have one, I don't. Wish that I did though. I like rowing thru the gears.

84,000 is a good number. It's done well. Having issues now isn't out of spec.

I would guess that it is sensor or computer related because the transmission isn't failing. Such as: Making noise, stops driving the truck, gears grinding... it's a sensor comp issue. Manual transmissions are simple.

Is it a hydraulic, electronic, or manual actuated clutch? Maybe a sensor there has bit the dust. Bad solenoid, etc.

Have you seen or worked on a jeep gladiator manual transmission? Just asking respectfully.

No. Just trying to help.

I have rebuilt a few manual transmission in my days, but I am, I suppose, out of my element with the new electronic stuff.

Sorry, never mind.

No don't be offended, these mopar manual transmissions aren't like the old days, that's why I'm saying it's not a real manual transmission.

Here's the manual transmission control module. Attached to a cable that runs through the floor and to the outside of the transmission. It's all electronic, the second pic is where it plugs into the computer system. It's all b.s.

Where's my 1973 Toyota Land Cruiser?

Good Luck. I mean that. I learned something today. Thank you.

Exactly, it's tragic. Spent so much on something you thought you were getting to not get what you paid for...in my case I've put 40k into mine in upgrades, true bummer.

Well, that looks like a fun wear part I’ll have to watch out for later… I guess the white plastic knob drops into something in the transmission rather than being bolted in?

I had the service transmission error on my JTR soon after I got it home from the dealer (400 miles). It happened intermittently on startup after sitting overnight in my side-sloped parking spot, so I suspected tranny oil level. One time the truck actually went into limp mode, but pulling over and restarting cleared it.

It went away on its own a few days later. I decided a dealer would never be able to replicate it and I never got around to checking the oil level.

—

You say it started happening after a recent software upgrade? I’ve had all manner of computer issues on mine. (I have to turn the update function off or the computer crashes when I shift into reverse if my phone is connected by CarPlay).

Can the dealer downgrade you to the previous version?

Nope that white part hooks up to a cable that runs through the tub and hooks to to a lever on the outside of the transmission. Can be seen under the truck.
