Um, I think so? The original sound was heavy at idle, ~250 beats a minute (so every other rotation)... now I have a tick at a ~500bpm cadence, much quieter, and it goes away once oil pressure is built.
Are you a former or current musician, or perhaps a drummer with the military? Love the comparison, terminology and logic applied there.
If every mechanic had a customer that could logically explain sounds like you do - man, I'd have been trilled to have a customer come in with that sort of description.

Ha, not quite. I work in an ammo factory (engineer) and know what certain machines’ run rates are, and can hear them in my sleep sometimes….
Production’s favorite party trick is to crank up a machine’s run rate beyond its “sweet spot” and create the illusion of better numbers…. Always comes at the cost of a higher scrap rate or reduced tool life.

so I police them.

That makes total sense. I was a drummer in Jr. High and HS, then changed interests and spent my life with cars and dropped the music.
I understand what you mean with machines. I have a fascination with things mechanical and rhythmic sounds. I can start my hit and miss engines up out in the yard, pull out a camp chair, and sit among them while the sounds put me to sleep. You get to where the sounds of the machines or equipment you work with are expected and you can sense or detect any minor little change. People ask me how I know - I can't explain it, I just know, I feel it. there's something primal about it.
Years ago when I showed at the Central Hawkeye antique engine show, I would walk into the big building on the hill and there was a large National single cylinder diesel engine up there, the rocker arms, fuel pump, then the big 4 cylinder diesel generator engine. It was hard to get me out of that building with all of those things running.

Drums - I have this clip saved to favorites and play it over and over sometimes when I want to get lost -

Any updates?
i traded it in for a Diesel Gladiator. I’ve had it since Feb, and put 8600 miles on it. LOVE IT! I’ve got 2 inch Mopar lift with 37s, and pulling down 22 mpg in town.

How much more did you end up spending on this one? If you don’t mind me asking. I’m thinking of doing the same

1) No it doesn't. I get carfax notifications when something gets reported, and I can say with certainty that some dealerships and service centers report it to Carfax, some don't. I get an instantaneous email and text at the ones who do. Now, I also have the option on the Carfax app or website to enter my own maintenance records, and utilize that as well. But otherwise, at the closest dealership, nothing goes in. I have to do it myself. The one a little further away: every single oil change goes on. The local 4x4 shop replaced balljoints on my wife's JK. That went on instantly. The local jeep dealership does warranty repairs... Nothing.
There's an option on the app to invite more dealerships and service centers to participate, so clearly, they want to be all encompassing, but they are not. The site even lists lists all of the locations that do participate.

2). I've had two engines replaced on two different vehicles from two different makes. No effect on value. Still given the "very good to excellent" condition appraisals. They walk you through why they appraised the vehicle the way they did, including each flaw, and in neither of those cases was the replacement engine even considered. And these weren't a long time ago. This is the Subaru I traded 3 years ago and the Compass I traded 6 months ago. The only things I've taken dings for have been mileage, tires, etc. Never repairs or replacement parts. They tell me "Your Carfax came out clean", print out what they found out, and walk me through why they deduct what they did. Engine replacement, or vehicle repairs have literally never come up as a ding against the vehicle value, even trading to a dealership of the same make, who has access to all the records. They've brought up needing new tires. They've brought up needing brake pads. Never mentioned repairs that were performed. They are checking for mileage, obvious lack of maintenance, condition, accidents, and that's it.
I go through a lot of cars. More than I should. I have plenty of experience with the process.

All true but... that will not stop the dealer dude....

Same thing I did. Diesel is so much smoother running and way way more powerful and efficient. Dealers don’t have a way to really narrow down the 3.6 cam/lifter issues.

I spent about $8K more, and that’s with the bumper to bumper 100k warranty. I kept all of my goodies off the old truck except for the steel bumper.

Why would you lose any equity? This has zero effect on your resale value. As long as it's fixed, no one will know or care. My compass got a new engine at like 40k. When we traded it in, to a Chrysler/Jeep dealer, no one asked or cared. Had a Subaru with a new engine once too. Same thing. No one cares come trade in time.
This is absolutely right. You aren't under any duress to do anything.

Don't make a dumb decision.

Get it fixed and either keep it or not based on other factors.

I would transfer everything over from mine as well. Thanks. I’m thinking hard, it would be a no brained for me if diesel wasn’t ridiculously high right now?

I work for an oil company and they pay for my fuel. It helps a lot! Good luck with whatever you choose.
