Quaker State doesn't holdup very well in the Gen III EcoDiesel beyond 5,000-mile intervals and your UOA reports show that.I've been running the Quaker State. I've also been seeing high wear metals.
I'll be changing to the AFL MS Amsoil.
I've been using Pennzoil Platinum during the warranty period, but I've been contemplating switching over to Amsoil AFL MS as soon as my stash runs out. Overall, my UOA reports look pretty good with Pennzoil Platinum at 5,000-mile drain intervals.I’ve been running the Quaker state since I ran out of my Jeep wave oil changes. Might have to make the switch.
If you just got the tune from GDE, it should be the revised one to address fuel dilution. I run it and my numbers are marginally better. My next report will be on the new tune.Just getting caught up on all this...
I don't live on the forum and just got my PCM back from GDE to read all this worry about fuel dilution and wear metals.
I have been sending my oil off to Black Stone with the 3 most recent changes. And I've been running the Quaker State. I've also been seeing high wear metals.
I'll be changing to the AFL MS Amsoil.
To reiterate, these results are all on stock tune. Quite a bit of idling in cold ass Minnesota as well, I'll be cutting down on that.
To do the math, most recent oil change went long, and was 6.44 ppm iron, 3.48 ppm aluminum
I'm on my second interval using FR3. So far, I haven't found any added benefit when looking at my UOA report. We'll see what the next sample looks like.About to hit 45k miles and thought about using this from now on. Anyone use this or anything like it?
Please keep us posted!I'm on my second interval using FR3. So far, I haven't found any added benefit when looking at my UOA report. We'll see what the next sample looks like.
Yep. Take your sample in the white bottle. Wrap the bottle with the gray material and use a rubber band to hold it in place. Next place the sample bottle into the zip lock baggie, then into the black bottle. Put the black bottle into the mailing bag along with your paperwork that you filled out. Seal the mailing bag and place in the mail box. Next wait for about 4 weeks for the results e-mail. Remember to write down your tracking number. For those of you versed in the black stone lab tests…
I just got my first kit.. I take it the shipping label to return this sucker is prepaid? Sure looks to be that way to me.
Let me start off by sharing what we've learned due to oil samples being collected. For one, we know that high aluminum wear is due to tuning. OE tuning in the Ram increases aluminum compared to factory tuning in the Jeep. We know the 3rd gen engine is really hard on oil, therefore owners now know to shorten oil change intervals or change to an oil that holds up better to shear. Due to a large number of data collected, we now know which oils hold up better in the Ram or Jeep application.I have an honest question: What happens if you send your oil out to the lab and its abnormal? If you've used the proper oil type, filter, and interval what are you really going to change?
It seems like a waste of money to me, if a bearing is eating itself its not going to stop because you change to quaker state or stp filter. I just dont understand the process? I could very well be wrong, please educate me.
If the results are bad are you going to tell your engine to stop doing that! Its a confusing waste of money imo.
They got released for a short period and someone snagged them. You can download them over at this thread.I've been using nothing but QS and oem filters since my first oil changed at 4,100mi. My 3 yrs warranty expired and I'm planning on keeping this truck for a very long time. I will continue with QS and oem filters until it die . Still waiting on Jeep releasing the diesel service manual so i can keeps it going once out of power train warranty.
Edit: Since new, i had only been back to the dealer once for the def update flash. Was thinking about trade it in for a '23 diesel, but didn't want to try my luck with another diesel as this one is flawless so far.
I just got my diesel and am also very interested in which Oil is the best for these engines as well.Hi,
I'm new here and just want to better understand the oil situation, since the dealer robbed me once. I've been using pennzoil euro and oem filters.
As you've stated in your post above to "brendan glad";
Due to a large number of data collected, we now know which oils hold up better in the Ram or Jeep application. What oil is the best based on your collective data, very interesting?
I'm not sure about the other two points made, modifying through a third party tuner is against my warranty. Sounds like GDE needs to work on their tuning skills.

Amsoil AFL MS is the best oil I've seen for the Gen 3 EcoDiesel.I just got my diesel and am also very interested in which Oil is the best for these engines as well.
