There are threads on JK forums complaining about the the speedometer and tachometer being reversed compared to most other vehicles. About every motorcycle I've seen with a tachometer and a few sport cars have the tach on the right and speedo on the left just like the JKs do.

Back up and forward down feels completely natural to me.

I'm just thankful that Jeep hasn't gone to rotary shifters in the Gladiator and Wrangler. I would be in hell. Hate them with a passion.

None of us had any say in this matter, so let's agree to disagree. Two threads and both went long.

Let's start another discussion on right or wrong.

This is the equivalent to “should the toilet paper fall over the top or come out the bottom” argument.

What would be cool is if they gave the owner the option to flip the functionality through Uconnect and have the faceplate on the shifter be removable so you can rotate the plus and minus symbols.

Oprah settled that one - it should fall over the top, towards you.

Like I mentioned before, my Volvo manual gear changes are side to side, left is downshift, right is upshift. You get used to it.
Just like my 2013 JKU. 👍

But yeah, when I'm sitting on my couch and pointing my remote at the tv, when I press forward, I expect the volume to decrease cause BMW does it that way. Completely natural to me.

Haha

I have no dog in this fight but was enlightened nonetheless. Makes me want to make my manual a vertical gate though so I can daydream I'm driving Pro Stock.

Partially related, I just discovered the buttons on the back of my wheel actually do something on my truck. I thought they were intended for auto paddle shifting which would solve this situation and go straight from rally car to F1 lol.

That guy is a hoot - you want to not like him but can't help yourself.

Watch Kevin's shifter - he's pushing forward for every-other gear.
7.48 second quarter mile at 184 mph - don't tell me you can't push it forward to upshift - at way over 100 mph ;)

This is the world's fastest AMC-powered Gremlin.

Haha exactly that's sick. Forward vs backwards being correct is a coin flip as far I'm concerned.

I don't agree with it, but I'm going to start using it more just to build in the muscle memory.
Time to move 'forward'. Hahaha
