The counter point people will say is, they like to be informed.

It's a false sense of control and security, but makes people happy, like additives and Amsoil and Baxter oil filters and various religions except the one that's true, etc etc.
I guess knowing it was getting ready to go to the big Jeep Engine Junkyard in the sky would give you plenty of time to write a Dandy Eulogy :jk: :please::CWL:

but makes people happy, like additives
The additives people ignore all of the studies, tests, videos, science and more showing their additives are placebos at best, actually increase wear at worst.
Same for people flipping around with different oils - they'll quote certain people, maybe The motor oil geek, but then ignore him when he runs tests showing increased wear by mixing oils.
Hmmm, he knows his stuff, but better ignore his tests showing that you risk increased wear.

I like doing regular oil analysis. Good thing I am not spending other peoples money on it.
I'm not out to stop you, and don't care if you continue with analysis, Baxters, additives, early changes, and anything else that makes you happy.

But, as you admit, you're doing it because you like it, not out of any demonstrable value added to your life.

They don't offer a solution, just a way for you to be like, ooo my most recent analysis showed copper a little high, but Mars was in retrograde when I pulled my sample so what do you think guys???!?

At best, after years of effort and money, you might get to trade it in before it blows and screw some single mom at a Buy Here Pay Here.

It's not like you're going to get a report back and be like, whelp, guess I'm yanking this thing and rebuilding it over the weekend.

It's really just another way for anxious people to be anxious about something else.

That is your summation trying to box the argument in and be dismissive.

There is a lot of that going on around here.

You interjected a lot of what you thought that misses the mark of what I value in doing an oil analysis and over read the word "like" in my reply.

I've aways wondered - what do people do if they get a report back with some alarming numbers?
Or even iffy numbers?
Trade it?
Set up for a hemi swap?
Start a new savings account for what's coming soon?

I've done the analysis myself - mostly to see if my use was causing anything outside of what I'd see in just ordinary driving. Towing, heat, plowing, just driving around, no difference.
So for me it was more like "I'm not causing any more wear towing or plowing than just driving it around - ok, I'm happy with that".

If you get a report with some specific things being reported - you can check your air filter, keep track of your coolant, and perhaps have another piece of a puzzle if you also see cooling going down slowly - you know where it might be going. Clues, but that's about it and above what most people would ever do with the information.

I don't even care what his engine numbers were. What I would like to see is Transmission analysis reports. Now that would be informative 👍

OK, so I'm not an "Oil Guy" so bear with me. What was really learned with all this analysis? Other than gut feel why the switch in viscosity from the OEM 0w20? Something trigger a need to ? At the end of the day any figures/stats show one better than the other?

LOL, you must have burned some calories coming up with all that.

But you forgot about the other kind of anxiety. The one where the sufferer gets the fuse on his tampon lit because of how somebody else decides to spend their money and does a 2 cent psychoanalysis of why someone does something they don't understand or with which they disagree. Probably a control issue o some kind of weird superiority trip.

I dont know what that is .
Bobistheoilguy .com

It's an oil/lube/automotive forum. Some pretty interesting stuff in the transmission oil forum. If you enjoy the topic of oils and chemistry, it's a fun place to geek out.
