Oil cooler problems 2022 and newer 3.6L pentastar

How do you know they are fine? I’m guessing out if 8 changes, it’s been put on too tight 4 times.

Well, the only evidence I have is that whenever I want, I get in it and drive it hundreds of miles.

But you're right, it probably exploded and killed me 40,000 miles ago and I'm actually a ghost now.

Be helpful to hear back about problems (leaks, cracks, etc) in the stock plastic oil cooler assembly for 2022 and newer 3.6L Pentastar engines.

YouTube it - it's a known issue for ALL the 3.6s. Plastic housing often cracks during fill-cap inst (over-tightened, cross-thread), and/or it fails where the plastic housing mates with the aluminum lower intake man. My 2020 has had a small leak (a couple drops every 100mi or so), I bought the Dorman aluminum replacement kit - procrastinating the R&R tho

Clearly you know what I meant. How do you know you have no cam wear, since they’ve not been inspected? I drive hundreds of miles in tough environments and it gets me there. But that sure as hell doesn’t mean my cams are fine. My oil cooler? That’s probably fine. Since I’m the only person to ever touch it in dozens of oil changes. But you’ve never touched yours, and are very sure it’s fine?

I do my own oil changes since discovering that my dealer service department torqued the oil pan drain plug so tight that I had to use a bolt extractor to remove it and replace the now destroyed plug with new. They also way over tightened the filter cap to a point that I’m surprised they didn’t crack the plastic on the housing. Inexcusable work for a Jeep dealer service department.

Oh, I have a full team of Space X engineers tear my Jeep completely apart and fully analyze every component before I touch the start button each time.

Sure, it's costly, but what's my peace of mind worth?

There definitely aren't people just hopping in these things, driving them without a care until the oil light goes off, scheduling a change at the dealer, and ignoring all this obsessive compulsive, over anxious, neurotic behavior on the forums and groups.

That would be madness, to just go enjoy life, and the nice things you've earned in life, without ripping your nails and hair out about everything that could go wrong.

I don't even leave the house without Level 4 MOPP gear and a fully battery of bloodwork.

Yep. Because changing my own oil makes me neurotic. And for the record, me enjoying life and the expensive things I’ve purchased, is taking care of them. I enjoy auto maintenance. I’m not obsessive, compulsive, or over anxious. I’m a hobbyist. I should say I’m not over anxious about my jeep.

Then realized that's crazy (especially since it's not easy in the first place).

So instead I just kept my oil filter in a plastic bag last weekend and this week I'll sit at my work bench and thumb through every pleat and see if it caught the 'usual' amount of metal or a 'suspect' amount

Did you use the free oil changes? Those kids working in the oil change bay are training to be a tech. Turns out, they create work for the experienced guys down the road.

If the filter is changed correctly, there's a good chance you will avoid having issues. Correctly isn't really appropriate. When installing the cap, be sure to wipe it clean and lube the new o-ring.

I do not use the torque specifications to secure the filter cap. Just turn until it stops. You can feel it when it bottoms out. Jethro is not your friend who you would want to do your oil change.

Unfortunately, when the Jiffy lubes and dealerships cause the damage, it is really hard for anyone to prove that they did it.

I never use the dealer for anything but recalls. I have had a number of 3.6's , changing oil has never been an issue in the past . I have free oil changes and tire rotations for which I never use. I also swapped my OFA myself .

Thanks for reminding me to do the t case. It’s been I think 30-40k since I did it. Transmission was last summer. So I’ve got a little time before that again.

I’ve actually never leafed through one of mine. Maybe I will now, just for fun, not because of my many mental illnesses. I’m the same, on one hand I’d like to see under those covers. The other hand says ignorance is bliss, sometimes.
