I am on the newbie side of the aisle somewhat, returning back to off-roading after some years of doing that pro-creating thing with children and businesses. In my desire to quickly deflate and quickly re- air my tires, I am curious as to the experience of others, whether with an installed, on-board compressor that’s a part of your build, or something you store and take out as a portable device when you need air.

l’m leaning to installing an ARB brand under the hood if possible, with an air hose connection right inside the hood and then another in the bed, somewhere where it’s protected. I would appreciate your opinions and photos.

I did the dual compressor from ARB right under the hood when I got my lockers installed. The chuck right under the hood with morrflate hookups is the right combination for me in tire inflation and deflation. Hope you find what works for you too!

I have the arb twin under the hood using the Grim kit. I hear that the lifespan may not be so great having it mounted as such. It does have some shielding from the included bracket. Have the manifold kit and solenoids for air lockers mounted next to the upper Grim bracket.

Works great so far though I do want to run a second chuck and build some dual hoses to do front and back at same time. Also looking into the pressure control kit so I can auto fill the tires to programmed pressure using my Linx.

How the Grim setup looks

That is a great, clean setup! Did I read correctly that you are thinking like me of running hoses back to a convenient spot as to mitigate a long hose from the hood area? Or am I crazy?

I have a portable, works well and I can use it with multiple vehicles, it has large clips and attaches directly to the battery. I keep it in a bag under the rear seat.

No totally I eventually want two channels lets call them, one for rear tires one for front, each pressure regulated so I can just hook all four up and hit go. Probably run the rear one near end of the tailgate.

I installed an arb twin under the driver seat in my gladiator and am very happy with both the pump and the location. I used twin viair pumps on my last vehicle and those worked well too, they are just bulkier and a little louder.

I've been using a portable Smittybilt for several years and it's been great. Especially nice on the budget to switch between 2 vehicles. I recently added an ARB single under the hood of my '05 Wrangler to free up space and now just use the portable in the JTR. If I did onboard air for the JTR (although very low priority), I've been intrigued by the Kraken from Epic Outfitters for the location and the multiple tires at once, seems a simple setup.

So, I go to the beach every other weekend and find myself really wanting onboard air. I’m using a separate (ammo can) compressor and it works well but 8 minutes vs 20-25 minutes sounds a whole lot better. Plus when I put the hood up it makes everyone slow down and stop to check on me.

I like this idea, any pics?
