I'd be weary of a lemon law'd vehicle, especially from a dealer that "didn't know it was a lemon vehicle, and now we can't find the paperwork", and you're getting it from a Ford dealer? Dude RUN! Not on;y have they presented you with at LEAST 3 red flags, but it's a dealer that knowingly sells vehicles that are designed to barely meet the minimums (also the only company that doesn't make cars anymore in the USA, other than the mustang, because they're garbage and cost Ford too much money).

Seriously, they "forgot it was a lemon"...BS. They "lost the paperwork", yeah they're hiding something, and have already admitted it. And they "don't know if the title is clear", dude, that place sounds like it's run by the 3 stooges, was the manager's name Moe?

I've worked in the auto industry for over a decade, not just repairing/build vehicles, but buying/appraising, selling, and financing. You are taught what red flags to look for, and my friend, I wouldn't have bought that lemon unless I was knowingly sending it to auction SOLEY to SELL a high commission vehicle. And almost every dealer I've worked for in 3 states, would generally tell me to send them elsewhere.

You might get lucky, but know when you buy a lemon, you generally will have issues forever, with something. Not 100% always, but 98% of lemons are this way. They make great race vehicles, toys though!

As for deleting emissions equipment on the diesel, if you live in an area where there aren't emissions testing, go for it. I'm always on team delete, when tuned/maintained properly, and for the real reason for deleting: reliability.
- But stay out of Cali (even trips in it) or places where they're Nazis about mods/emissions avoidance, because they're punishable by x counts of violations and up to felony charges for each and years in prison for each, not to mention the $xxxxxxxx in fines.
Thank you for the reply, this is exactly the attitude I'm going in with. The reason the buyback didn't immediately turn me away is because I talked to the dealership where it was repaired and resold. It was bought back for HPFP failure and lack of replacement parts. That dealership has no skin in the game so I feel OK about that. I'm not sure if the sales manager I'm dealing with now was aware it was a buyback or not but like you said, his job is to know. After I asked about it he said he looked at the title and it is clear and not branded but I didn't ask to see it.

If he is being honest and the title is truly not marked, to me that is another problem. I could see that kind of thing happening between the original owner and a dealer, but if that is what happened, how would carfax know about it? To me there has to be more to the story. The reason I'm still planning to go look at it is because it has the exact options I want. If it wasn't for that, I wouldn't spend the money to fly out. My best guess is the odds I buy it are 50/50. The deal is made dependant upon my inspection and drive. If I see anything I don't like, I walk.

The HPFP pumps are not next to impossible to get. It seems to be on the dealerships. There are people that have been waiting months or years to get them. I bought my 2022 used in 2024 and took it to my local dealership and they had the HPFP in 3 days. Even without the recall done I drove mine from TX up to ID and back and then had the recall done on it. Like everyone else has stated the key is to use a good fuel additive. One thing people haven't mention is that if you live somewhere cold you need to make sure you switch to a winter blend fuel additive to keep the fuel from gelling or add an anti-gel additive to the fuel. You don't want to learn that the hard way.
When I said next to impossible to find, I meant back in 2021 and 22. I also really have no idea because I didn't have the 3.0. What I am going by is the conversations I read on here back then of Jeeps torn down for months waiting on parts.

Since we have been talking fuel additives I thought I would share my system with the class.

I use a 50/50 mix of the Amsoil injector clean + cetane boost and Optilube XL and mix them in an old 32 0z Optilibe bottle

I got these 4 oz bottles from Amazon. 1 oz of my mix treats 5 gallons of diesel, roughly 1 tank of fuel. When I fill up locally I take one bottle with me and pour in before filling

I may have worded it wrong. I just meant that it seems to be the wait times to get the part is dependant on the dealership. I believe there are some people still waiting to get the recall done. Some dealerships can get the part quickly and others cannot get it quickly. When I had mine done people were still being quoted 6+ month wait times by their dealership and mine got it in 3 days. I have no idea what the wait time is now. You might try giving your local dealership a call and ask them if it is something you a worried about having to wait a long time to get fixed.

For long trips I take a large plastic container full of the small bottles.
YMMV

Wow, I didn't realize there were still customers waitng for a replacement. Are you talking about people who bought used Jeeps more recently that have not yet had it replaced, or people who bought 3.0s new back in 20 to 23 who are still waiting on a list? I don't remember the specifics but there were posts a few years ago talking about dealers only being allotted a certain number of pumps in the beginning, but I assumed that was due to demand. The one I'm looking at has been replaced so that isn't a worry. My concern was whether that was the reason for the buyback or if there was something else.

Great Idea, may have to adopt it. What is the mix ratio, unless I missed it, of each one?

I also do this but use 2oz bottles and try to fill up when I'm at around 1/2" tank when possible. I also changed to a large glass mason jar to hold the small bottles so they don't stink up my cab. Fits perfect behind the rear seat.

Thanks, will have to switch to this once my Jeep is back from the shop, replacing all the injectors under warranty.

Unless you are going to do a full delete I would avoid any diesel, especially if you do not really need more power. The emissions just kill modern diesels, my 6.7 is a beast now and the oil looks pretty clean after 5k miles, but I did a full delete

There are no cost savings with a diesel, yes you get better mileage, but the fuel is more + DEF + diesel additive + all maint. for diesels costs more.

I'm backing out on the one I was planning to go see this weekend. Everything about it sounds and looks great but the dealer selling it has the hair on the back of my neck standing up. I've never in my life been able to deal with a big city car dealer and this is no exception. This one had a problem with me bringing a certified check late in the day tomorrow for payment. In their defense, at the time I would have arrived around 4pm their time, 5pm my time. Their argument was that my bank would be closed and they could not let me take the vehicle until payment was verified. The only way I could take the Jeep quickly was a wire transfer. Strange to me for a certified check but the world is different than it was 30 years ago so I let it go. Rather than agree to a wire, I changed my flight to arrive there around 9am their time Friday morning. If they had a problem with an after hours bank check, this gave them all day to verify the funds. Rather than agree, they asked for partial payment via check but at least 5k from a credit or debit card. That was the last straw with them. Anyone else heard of this?
