I'm backing out on the one I was planning to go see this weekend. Everything about it sounds and looks great but the dealer selling it has the hair on the back of my neck standing up. I've never in my life been able to deal with a big city car dealer and this is no exception. This one had a problem with me bringing a certified check late in the day tomorrow for payment. In their defense, at the time I would have arrived around 4pm their time, 5pm my time. Their argument was that my bank would be closed and they could not let me take the vehicle until payment was verified. The only way I could take the Jeep quickly was a wire transfer. Strange to me for a certified check but the world is different than it was 30 years ago so I let it go. Rather than agree to a wire, I changed my flight to arrive there around 9am their time Friday morning. If they had a problem with an after hours bank check, this gave them all day to verify the funds. Rather than agree, they asked for partial payment via check but at least 5k from a credit or debit card. That was the last straw with them. Anyone else heard of this?
I understand their hesitation with a certified check after banking hours. Why not just do a wire transfer when you get there though? That’s the easiest solution and how I prefer to buy/sell vehicles.

I can understand the hesitation with certified checks. They can be easily copied and made to look real. Folks will even go as far as putting a fake phone number on them and have someone answer to "verify" the check if you call that number, so it's always best to look up the issuing banks number from their website and call. I just sold a camper via certified check and looked up the banks number to call and verify.

If it's a brand dealership I wouldn't be worried about them wanting some sort of guarantee from a card.

Unless I'm missing something, which I may be, after I changed flights to be there when they opened Friday morning, both the dealership and their bank could easily verify the funds while I went over the vehicle. I understood the issue with an after banking hours transaction and went out of my way to accommodate them. I also understand their need to protect themselves, but I'll only go so far and I reached that point. I truly feel there was more going on with the Stellantis buyback of that Gladiator than they let on. Every time I asked about the title they said it was clear but they had to have payment before showing it to me. There are plenty of people out there willing to take my money to worry about making one car dealer happy.

Wow reading all the potions and wizardy that need to be put into the fuel and such I’m kinda glad I didn’t go with a diesel. I agree with you on the check thing. Sounds hinky. I’d keep looking until you find what you want with someone willing to take your money. In the traditional sense.

I used to use Hot Shots EDT, but I've switched to this...
Jeep Gladiator Opinion on trading 2022 JTR for 21 JTRD Screenshot_20260216_212027_Amazon Shopping

Supposedly it leaves less deposits in the DPF than the HotShots does.
Easy to find at most parts stores and the local Wal-Mart carries it.

I add some every few fills. I'll definitely add it anytime I get B20 or from an odd fuel station. Usually add a heavy dose when we go out of town where I know I'll need to get fuel while we gone. Then I'll make sure I add some as soon as we get home.

Oh and we have 2 ecodiesels. Wife's 21JLURD and my 22JTRD, we both love them. There is no gas motor currently available we'd trade either for.

I found a 2023 with 40k on it this evening with the options I want. Good thing about it is that it still has some warranty left. I've got an email sent so hopefully will talk with them tomorrow.

Unfortunately, that is due to all the scams and thieves out there that have no consequences anymore, which makes it harder for the rest of us. Best of luck on the '23, better year anyway (not truck as they are the same just year since mine is a '23).

The most of the stuff is beeing filled without evidence of effects ...

But isn't that often the case. ;)

You might try calling Carfax and the original selling jeep dealer and the buying dealer and getting the answers you're looking for. TBH if a business was that against proving they're not liars about a lemon buyback, just run man. Let someone else take the hit for fun.

And getting a certified check from your bank is NOT easy to fake. Watermarks, UV ink, foils, there's plenty of ways to tell if they're legit. This isn't 2007 anymore when AMEX was still the shittiest CC out there. I'd understand a PERSONAL check, but a certified check from the bank you have an account with and they could just call another branch in another state (possibly) would confirm my point.

I've done this ^^^ in the past for customers with checks, "hey looks like you bank with chase/key/etc, I know they're closed here currently, but I'm going to call a branch in another time zone where they ARE open still." BOOM, deal done.

People make it far more complicated than it needs to be.

Keep a bottle of EDT (or your brand of choice) in the truck and run it per instructions.
Every oil change run Extreme Diesel (or your brand of choice) in the next tank per the instructions.

I've never needed to run DEF additive, but I have seen DEF injectors get all nasty crystalized. But again, run it as directed on the bottle and call it a day. No need to break out the measuring cups and beakers.

Uh, define "need". You don't think there are all kinds of fuel treatments and snake oils sold for gasoline?
The reality is, most fuel treatments, for both diesel and gasoline, aren't required. But yet the market for them is huge. I figure it is a small price to pay, and it makes me feel better. But I have no illusions, I really don't need to spend the money on fuel treatments, with my gasoline powered vehicles or my diesel. No doubt thousand of diesel Gladiators never get any sort of fuel treatment and they run fine. When I do it, I do it because I want to, not really because I have to.

Your diesel will run fine without additives but it is a $9K repair if the HPFP eats itself. Known cause of pump failure is lack of lubrication so an additive can't hurt. Bonus is a cetane boost, injector cleaning and moisture control.
6BT? If it has a VP44 injector pump I highly recommend an additive to increase lubrication plus a bump in lift pump pressure.
Just trying to make the diesel live a long happy life. :like:

I'm in this camp. I have a bottle of Stanadyne lubricity in the truck, but i only add it whenever i feels like it, maybe every few tanks if that.
