No need to add anything to the oil, if they just changed it then you should be good. Personally I would change it again after the trip and then one more time after 3000 miles. Just to keep fresh oil running through it a bit, but I do tend to be very picky on engines I do not know the history.

One thing to ensure prior to leaving the dealer is DEF, dealers tend not to fill that so make sure they have it full before driving off. Bring a bottle of Rislone with you and dump it in the DEF tank. It will clean any crystalization that may have formed.

Lastly, I do use Hot Shots's Secret Everyday Diesel but only every other top off. I don't use it every fill up because it can end up with too much in a tank. Every other fill up seems to keep things clean and smooth. Or non at all, it is a personal choice.

Lastly, Congrats and good luck.
I completely agree about changing oil quickly after getting it home but hadn’t thought about doing it a second time after 3k. That makes sense.

The downside to flying to get it is that I can’t take anything with me. I’ll add Rislone to my list of things to pick up once I sign the paperwork. There is an Oreilly Auto a few blocks away so that will be the first stop and it looks like they carry it

I think you will be pleased with the diesel. Like others have mentioned it will require more maintenance but the effort is worth it. I have a Wrangler and a JT both with diesels, didn't consider a Wrangler until I heard the diesel was offered and ordered one, Ordered the JT 2 years later.
I would suggest a quality fuel additive every tank to keep the HP pump happy.

Didn't read every post... But...I love my diesel.

New, with just 35s, I was getting 30 highway and 28 city. Now all the extra weight (35s, bumpers, winch, lights, bed cover, chase rack, molle panels, side steps/skids, undeseats and behind seats tools/straps/camp gear) I get 21-23 combined with plenty of power to haul my quad and tow my overland trailer.

Side note. It's illegal to remove emissions from the vehicle so all the DEF deletes are a no go as far as EPA is concerned on the federal level...although removing them does have multiple upsides I wish I could obtain legally

With the Risline just watch which one you get first, the one I linked the whole bottle gets dumped into the DEF tank to clean things out. I worked great for me. They also Have one that you add a small portion with each 5 gallons added to maintain the system. I use that now for maintenance after running the other on a full tank. I just put the cap full into the DEF bottle and then put that into the tank. Easy enough, just wanted to make sure I am clear so there is no mix up.

Thank you for clarifying that. I ended up taking a screenshot of 4720 but I’ve got 4784 saved now.

A little hiccup on my end. I had planned to fly out to inspect and drive the ecodiesel on Tuesday but had to push it back until Friday. When I get there if nothing about it scares me off, I’ll drive it home after signing paperwork. The dealership that has it is almost 1,200 miles from here so having the weekend to drive home is actually better than hurrying during the week.

Assuming I end up buying it, Hot Shots fuel additive seems to be the easiest to find on a shelf but if anyone has other suggestions I’d appreciate it. I’ll have a 5 year old 3.0 with 40k on it that I don’t know the history of. With a long drive in front of me what would you run through it? Also, I do know they changed the oil a couple of weeks ago. Because I’ve always changed oil religiously and never had a related problem, I’ve never felt the need for an oil additive in any engine. Having said that, I’m now looking at a new situation with an unknown engine. Is there anything recommended I should add to the oil?
Congrats. Don't waste your money on Hot Shots. Get the highly rated... Opti-Lube XPD All-Season Diesel Fuel Additive. https://www.opti-lube.com/products/c29e76e733/3737200000003126543

When filling up between half and a quarter tank, that’s my plan, I’m thinking it would be best to back off the recommended ratio a little to account for additive still in the tank. Do you ever run a tank without additive to help keep the mix closer?

I used to use Hot Shots. Switched to XPD. But you can't find it when traveling. So Hot Shots is your best bet. Walmart, and truck stops, and most auto part places sell it.

The few places I found for XPD were Opti Lube, Amazon, or Walmart online. Really though when google didn’t show many results I didn't dig any further and just ordered it straight from Opti Lube. I first thought I’d be smart and order through Walmart and have it shipped to a store by where I’m getting the Jeep but they don’t ship it to stores for pick up.

For the 1200 miles you don't need to prepare anything. The engine will be just happy to run this distance without being shut down so often.
Only thing I would do, is checking the DEF level, if it is less than 50% adding a gallon might be a good idea.

I try to fuel HVO 100 as much as possible to keep the system clean. I think in the US it is called "renewable diesel" and mostly available at the West Coast.

I found a 2021 model diesel that has all the options I want and the price is right. The reason it's reasonable is because it was bought back by Stellantis in 2022. The manager of the Ford place that is selling it now says he didn't know it was a lemon lawed vehicle, not sure I beleive that, but he is now pulling the title to see if shows the buy back. I'm assuming it was a HPFP issue but I did call Jeep customer care and, to their credit, they were somewhat helpful. The girl said she didn't have access to records but she was able to give me the contact info of the dealership that did the repair and resale. Rather than just assume it was a fuel pump problem, I've got a call in to that dealership trying to find out exactly why it was lemoned and what was repaired. I had to leave a voicemail so no telling if they will even call back, but I am hopeful.

If the title is clear, and because the pumps were next to impossible to get for repairs, I'm not against buying it, if that was the problem. Without knowing for certain what the problem was, it is all a guess right now, but is there anything else specific I should ask about or look for?
I'd be weary of a lemon law'd vehicle, especially from a dealer that "didn't know it was a lemon vehicle, and now we can't find the paperwork", and you're getting it from a Ford dealer? Dude RUN! Not on;y have they presented you with at LEAST 3 red flags, but it's a dealer that knowingly sells vehicles that are designed to barely meet the minimums (also the only company that doesn't make cars anymore in the USA, other than the mustang, because they're garbage and cost Ford too much money).

Seriously, they "forgot it was a lemon"...BS. They "lost the paperwork", yeah they're hiding something, and have already admitted it. And they "don't know if the title is clear", dude, that place sounds like it's run by the 3 stooges, was the manager's name Moe?

I've worked in the auto industry for over a decade, not just repairing/build vehicles, but buying/appraising, selling, and financing. You are taught what red flags to look for, and my friend, I wouldn't have bought that lemon unless I was knowingly sending it to auction SOLEY to SELL a high commission vehicle. And almost every dealer I've worked for in 3 states, would generally tell me to send them elsewhere.

You might get lucky, but know when you buy a lemon, you generally will have issues forever, with something. Not 100% always, but 98% of lemons are this way. They make great race vehicles, toys though!

As for deleting emissions equipment on the diesel, if you live in an area where there aren't emissions testing, go for it. I'm always on team delete, when tuned/maintained properly, and for the real reason for deleting: reliability.
- But stay out of Cali (even trips in it) or places where they're Nazis about mods/emissions avoidance, because they're punishable by x counts of violations and up to felony charges for each and years in prison for each, not to mention the $xxxxxxxx in fines.

The HPFP pumps are not next to impossible to get. It seems to be on the dealerships. There are people that have been waiting months or years to get them. I bought my 2022 used in 2024 and took it to my local dealership and they had the HPFP in 3 days. Even without the recall done I drove mine from TX up to ID and back and then had the recall done on it. Like everyone else has stated the key is to use a good fuel additive. One thing people haven't mention is that if you live somewhere cold you need to make sure you switch to a winter blend fuel additive to keep the fuel from gelling or add an anti-gel additive to the fuel. You don't want to learn that the hard way.
