Coming from a guy who was dropping Chevy V8s into ‘50 and ‘60 era CJs and M38s 40 years ago (some with 5:38 gearing!), I’ve got to say that I’m pleased with the performance of my JT powertrain. It is a near-perfect balance in every way. I give it an A+.
Now I know why I can't find an old CJ that hasn't had a small block V8 mod!

How do you like the 4.88s in the rears? Have been considering a gear swap. Most recommend 5.13s. Running 37s on stock Rubicon 4.10s here
If you run the numbers just based on tire size 4.56s are closest. But with the extra weight we all add I decided to go to 4.88s and they seem perfect to me. I got a lot of the fuel economy (if you can call it that) back with the new gears. It is shifting way better now as well. I know a lot of people go to 5.13s but I figured 4.88s were adequate as it‘s my daily driver and my thought is they would be better on the road.

For a DD and mostly on-road vehicle, I wouldn’t go deeper than 4.88, personally. Trail rig, or play toy, 5.13 for the extra low-end grunt.

I am still happy with it, Max Tow, 4.10s with 35s. Should now equal 3.62s. I was surprised when I finally figured out to show gear# when staying in Auto. I am surprised how much it hangs in 7th. Trying to wait to regear and lockers at the same time but none of the vendors gave a damn about getting us a wide competitive selections to choose from. I still love it though! I do miss the morning wheelstands at the intersection with the stock 4.10s and the 245s.

I was shocked how much more time I spend in 8th with the re-gear.

Once I added some weight (bed rack, winch, RTT, significantly heavier wheels/tires) and increasing drag by lifting the truck, I found the power lacking. I just added a Magnuson supercharger kit and the power has not only corrected for the added weight, but really made the truck more enjoyable to drive for me. It really moves.

I’m coming from a 365-horsepower, twin-turbo, 3.5-litre V6 in my old Ford Explorer Sport.... it now feels like I’m driving something with a 4 cylinder engine in the JT but I’m having way more fun driving the Gladiator & I must say I am glad I traded the Ford

Have you recalibrated for the 35's because I'm not having a issue with mine hanging in 7th, curious also what MPGs your averaging. I'm running 315 70 17 BFG KO2s so it could be the choice of tire also.

I miss the power of my 2017 Canyon sometimes. It was very quick for a truck (0-60 in 6.1 sec bone stock) and it was fun to step on it. However, I've never felt like my Gladiator didn't have enough power to get the job done. It just doesn't give you that smile factor or power surge that the Canyon did. The Canyon also had a 3.6l V6 with an 8 speed auto, but it had more power (308 hp) and it was like 300 lbs lighter.

I drove a Canyon, they do got some decent power. I'm about to add a Rugged Ridge full width bumper and Badlands Apex 12000lb winch to mine so I'll report back on if there is much of a change in the power after the weight is added. Probably around 200lbs of weight roughly. I'm getting pretty decent gas mileage in the Charlotte area, how is up your way, I see your in Raleigh.

I get pretty respectable MPG around town, for what it is. On the highway though, I've noticed a huge drop off in mpg from my Canyon. The Canyon had cylinder deactivation and direct injection and it would get 24 mpg at 80 mph. I get 19-20 on the Gladiator on the highway and I have to stay under 80 or it drops to 18 mpg. I'm pretty disappointed in the hwy mpg.

That seems pretty on point with what I'm getting as well. 18.3-18.5 average on 35's, I'm hoping it doesn't drop to much more when I add the weight

Mine is stock, so that's not good for me that you get the same mpg on 35s lol
Yeah I still can't figure out this MPG thing, especially people with the same gearing but different packages. Doesn't make a whole lot of sense.

Electronic calculators is the problem. What you do is fill it up. Drive five miles. Fill it up again. Do math. I guess I don't like people moving cheese all around.
