So I took my JT Sport off road for the first time and for some reason after about 20 mins of being in 4HI, the coolant temp jumps suddenly. It doesn't climb, it goes from normal to red and beeping at me. 4LO seems to be fine, just makes the tranny a bit hotter but I think that's normal. I used my tazer to keep the cooldown on so the fan was running at high the whole time to keep it cool in 4LO so not 100% sure if it does it in 4LO or not. Is this normal? Could it have to do with getting it regeared recently?

Thanks! I was surprised how well my sport did on trail 51.

So it did it twice. Once was an easy pretty much dirt road going up a mountain and once was when I entered Windrock and got to the first overlook so yes I was climbing elevation pretty quickly. Is 4HI not suited for that? It seemed to do fine until it overheated

Ya sounds like something is off. Were you looking at the actual temp or the digital "gauge" on the left side of the screen? That "gauge" does not seem to have any correlation to engine temp on my truck. It always reads a tick below center where my actual temp from the menus does fluctuate a good bit in the 200* to maybe 230* range.

I did notice the one between the gauges was different than the one on the off road pages on the infotainment screen. But what gets me is the temp didn't climb to the red, it was fine and then just all of a sudden started blinking

I’ve towed a huge trailer up mountains at 90+ degrees, and it’s never beeped at me. The generic temp gauge next to the tachometer never moves. Something sounds wrong.

Conversely, I also did an experiment where I watched temps while off roading in like 80 degree weather, and my gauges dropped like 20 degrees when I went to 4Lo, even though it was working in like 4th or 5th gear.

I had thought that rolling down forest service roads at 15mph was better in 4h in 1st or 2nd gear than doing it in 4Lo in like 5th gear… after that experiment I’m more apt to shift to 4Lo now, even if I do that for a 15mile trail.

The fan did keep it cool, I just had to force it at full blast with my tazer. It's still under warranty so maybe when I get some time I'll take it by the dealer, doubt they'll do anything though.

2HI was fine for the whole trip on the highway or trails. Just seems to be 4HI that I know of

Someone else had the same issue. There is a thread here somewhere.
