Toyota Tundra (gone... Just totaled it 4/22/19) Now a 2018 Toyota 4Runner Limited, RX350 (Wife's) and soon a Gladiator LE
I have the LE on order, but, I plan on making it more like an overland rig. It will just have better off road capabilities incase I'm in a situation that calls for more. I like the rubicon look and the fact that I can change to 35's or 37's without modifications.

I know the LE's cant be ordered anymore but I'm sure many are going to be up for sale as dealers get their hands on some and some that placed the order change their minds. The LE solves the dash issue.

Go with the Rubicon is my recommendation and spend your money on getting it rigged for Overlanding.

It seems to me that the OP has already made up his mind. He's really just looking for us to affirm it for him.

Get the Rubi' man. You already know you want to.

It has nothing to do with insecurities but has everything to do with marketing. The Sahara and Overland models are geared more towards women.
NAH, this woman wants a Rubicon all the way!

Honestly, I'd argue a fully loaded Sport S is better than the Overland.

The only things you can't get on a Sport that you can on Overland are leather seats, LED lights, and color matched fenders/top. All of which are fairly easy to upgrade aftermarket or swap with some take offs.

If you don't need the serious off road capability of a Rubicon, go Sport S. The difference is price is basically $48k to $62k. You can use the money you saved to purchase bumpers/wheels/lift which you would have probably purchased for the Rubicon at some point anyway.
Also no 8.4 screen option

Rubicon 100%! Something else most don't notice are the little things between models....like my Rubicon comes with a Rock rail/side step behind rear wheel to protect exhaust pipes.....little things i tell ya!

The Rubi has nice offroad options that not everyone needs. Rock rails are a non issue for me, but no arguing the Rubi looks the best!

JMO, but if you don't know you need a Rubicon, you probably don't need a Rubicon.

Just FYI you have to modify it if u want to add 37s. It comes stock with 33 tires and can upgrade to 35 without lifting it.

Hey just fyi, having a manual transmission changes towing a lot. 4000lb limit on the sport s and overland and 4500 on the rubicon. Damn, I might need that rubicon now. I was originally thinking sport s loaded up, but that camper i want and the payload might push me so I'm not at the towing limit. Then I would have the option to hit up the rougher trailers near me that look pretty fun. The 5-7% discount made the rubicon barely affordable, but since I'd lift the sport s and add bigger tires maybe it would come out the same?

So I have been waffling back and forth between the sport S and the Rubicon. I thought about the Overland, but I wanted the full towing ( just in case). Really I want an overland with nicer tires and max tow. I was able to see the Overland and Rubi side by side this week and take a drive. I am 100% sure I want the Rubi, and I got my wife on board too. The tires just look dumb on the sport and OV. I know I can update. I was trying to get myself to settle for the black top and fenders and for some of the other options you can't get in the sport, but after looking at the Rubi, I want those, and the wife does too. Only problem is that I hate the red in the interior, and I may order the saddle leather, but she likes the black and the red, so I may not win. Only downside is that I may have to upgrade her GC.

OP, @GoIrish , what model did you decide to order? I keep going back and forth myself. I need to make my decision sooner rather than later as it's driving me cray cray going back and forth on the build configurator.

Thanks, guys... I'm going with the Rubicon, although I'm waiting for Gobi, so I've still got a few more months to go. It is definitely overkill for my use, but if I got the Overland, I would look to replace the plastic side steps and bumper on Day 1, so I'd already be +$2,000 at that point (relative to about a $4,000 difference in price between the Overland and Rubicon as I would purchase them). Add in the Rubicon hood, rock rails, Fox shocks, lockers, max tow capability, much better looking tires, etc..., and the price premium for the Rubicon actually seems like a bargain to me. Further, after seeing both models in person, I significantly prefer the look of the Rubicon. I plan on removing the "Rubicon" stickers and painting the tow hooks black, just to tone it down a bit, but otherwise I plan to run it stock for the foreseeable future. Like many of you, I am getting awfully tired of the waiting game, but I'm hoping that pricing and incentives will be a bit more attractive by the late Fall when Gobi is likely to be available. Thank you again for all of the great advice!

If towing is really your concern, then you shouldn't be looking at a Rubicon OR Overland, particularly if you have a family. The low payload rating on both models will preclude you from ever getting near the maximum towing rating.

Not sure if that was for me, but towing is not my primary concern. Just another selling point for the Rubicon.
