I just had the ox locker installed as well as 4.56 gears. i went with the electronic actuation system because i did not want to go with the air. i set up aux switch 1 as the power for the relay to activate the front locker. i have the trac lock on the rear. that is why i only did the front.
mind sharing labor cost? A shop told me it’s $350 more than an air locker for the ox

i bought the gears (4.56 ratio) from Rivercityoffroad.com for a total of $895.00 shipped and the complete ox locker kit including the 58inch cable and electric actuator was $1157. 00 shipped. there is a off-road shop in Layton , Utah called Fat Bobs Garage that did the install for $1430.00 for the whole install. the cost for the electrical actuator was $179.00. the ox locker website shows the cost for the air is $135.00

Is an Ox locker any better than an Eaton locker?

in doing my research on the ox locker, the ox locker is controlled by a cable which can then be activated or deactivated manually, by air or electrically. what sold me is if the cable, air system or the electrical unit fails, i can manually unlock and pin the locker so that i can go back to 2 wheel drive operation. no other locker has that ability.

Can you set it up for both manual and electric at the same time?

The electric shift system uses an electric actuator to drive the cable to the lock or unlock position which in turn shifts the fork inside to engage or disengage the locker. This eliminates the need to find a place to mount the manual shifter and cable assembly inside the vehicle. The actuator is designed to be mounted outside the vehicle and will resist the harsh environment. i hope this helps. i can add a picture of how and where Fat Bobs installed the actuator if you would like.

I’d love to see how the cable is routed/attached and where the actuator is attached.

If I understand the mechanics of each correctly, you do not have rhe disengagement/reengagement with the Ox locker if you need to change directions. If it does, it’s much less pronounced and requires less rotation, but I believe once the Ox is locked, it is locked. This disengagement by the elocker is argued to be its weakness when you need traction the most.

i am not sure on the eaton locker, but that does sound correct. however, when the ox locker is locked up it is locked up no matter what direction you are going. here is a picture of the left side of engine compartment where the electrical actuator is located.

I really wanted the manual shifters in the cab but there is just no way to route them without binding. In a buggy or something without modern electronics and full interior you can route them but not in a JT without doing some serious cutting to the floor pans or trans tunnel. I may still go with OX at both ends because I love the positive engagement. If I do I’ll go with the electric actuators versus the air.

For the air lockers (arb) I was told they fail unlocked. Is that true? In the northeast that would be handy for hose/pump failure. If it’s going to break, I’d prefer it fail open vs locked.

Having ANY type of selectable locker fail and default to the open position is much more desirable (and I believe the industry standard), imagine driving on the highway/interstate and having it fail and lock up ?. Even having it lock up on the trail could get you in a bind (pun intended) when you need maneuverability.

I didn't have to cut and huge holes. Just bought very long lines, ran out the front firewall and out under the rear seat. Nice gentle curves out, then down to the axles. No binding. No issues. 2023 max tow/ metalcloak 3.5"
