So your primary reason for buying the jeep was to pull your smaller jeep? To each their own I guess.
Yup
With the added bonus of being able to use the JT Rubicon on it's own for Camping and Rock Crawling.
But this sidebar has little to do with my question.

Since this is a thread about the 2 engines, I am just curious and the answer may be beneficial to the OP.

So maybe I should re-phrase my question.

Is anyone with a Diesel gladiator towing 7000-75000lbs?

it is 1000-1500lbs above the max towing rating of all Diesel equipped JTs
But within the tow rating of the Sport (s) and Rubicon Models

Trying to decide between a mojave with the 3.6 or a diesel rubicon. I know there have been a lot of concers surrounding the 3.0l lately and I don't tow a lot. I've just always been a diesel guy and I loved my old baby duramax Colorado (even though I likely won't be able to delete and tune my JT) just trying to rationalize getting one. What's yalls opinion?
Gas. Imo.

I hadn't even seen the news on the i6. Very limited information, I wonder.. are they waiting for the spring release of the other manufacturers, a refresh, or is it still in the works? Almost makes me want to wait and see.
There is a thread on the tornado , apparently it went into production in November in Mexico

Oil burner Rubicon or Gasser Mojave, what to buy?
What are you using it for? If you loved the oil burner Colorado and are a diesel guy get the Rubicon. Personally I'm manual transmission Mojave gasser freak (I guess). Depends on what you want to do with it, those packages are more than engine choices, they both fill different voids. Sounds to me like if you don't get the diesel you'll do the could've should've thing being that your a diesel guy. Good luck.

I’ve had both, and I am driving a 2022 diesel gladiator. The 3.6 failed me the first time, and was on its second engine. The diesel has great power, and just walks right up the hills. I drove from Portland through the gorge to Idaho yesterday. I averaged 23.5 mpg at 75mph. My 3.6 would only get 12.8 on 33’s, I am running 35’s on the diesel.

I like @TroutFishingInAmerica 's response. Mojave vs EcoD is really two different driving experiences, so it is more a question of what you are targeting.

Mojave is better on higher speed trails with its suspension. EcoD really shines in lower speed, where torque is premium. The Pentastar out of the box is going to have more throttle responsiveness, and drive sportier. I've had two JKs, one with the REAL 3.8L minivan engine... and I'll say the Pentastar IS NOT a minivan engine.

But my Pentastar JK Rubicon, which I THOUGHT was as beast to crawl with, can't hold a candle to the low end torque my JTRD has.... 440 ft/lb at 1400 RPM is a totally different wheeling experience.

I was torn on the decision as you are. I finally decided I can change the suspension on the EcoD to anything I want. A little harder to get 440 ft/lb of torque out of the Pentastar.

26k mi so far on the EcoD, and my only real issue is the sponginess of the stock suspension, so going to lift it. Love the mileage. Tows my 4500lb trailer effortlessly.

To each his own, it’s your money spend it how you want. I got gas for simplicity of system, better choices (at the time) for after market parts. Very happy with MY decision. Good luck.

My “minivan” 3.6 is currently supercharged and puts out more pwr than a hemi v8.

again my choice to even throw a blower on it, not everyone does. 17k miles current had 3k when super installed, zero issues.

buy what you want make it your own, keep Jeepin:rock:

My 2020 3.6 gasser has been rock solid for 45,000 miles, have had no issues other than the Aluminum steering box being replaced under warranty and my third brake light being replaced under warranty. I had considered a Diesel but the maintenance that goes into them and the fact that my Max tow can tow 5,000lbs for sure comfortably and stock can tow 7600lbs and no Gator color option has turned me away. I'll keep mine forever.

Here are some "facts" re diesel vs the gas. By facts I mean, things that we all can probably agree on.

1) the diesel makes much more torque and will hunt gears less on the highway and generally feel more powerful. I don't think there is any debating that the diesel is more pleasant to drive.
2) Diesel maintenance cost more. There is more oil, DEF, etc.
3) Diesels will get better fuel economy.
4) The old "simple" 400,000 mile diesels of yesteryear are gone. This thing is a lightweight engineering marvel of unknown ability to run to high miles.
5)There is very little in service history with this particular diesel running to high miles. There are more unknowns.
6) The diesel has suspension bottoming issues that can significantly impact its ability off road depending on the type of off-roading you do.
7) in high load towing in warm weather the diesel can have thermal issues.

Debatable stuff is
1) is overall cost of ownership higher or lower for gas vs diesel?
2) is the diesel better for towing in your use cases. (cooler, flatter, etc)
3) will the diesel be more hassle overall than the gas?

You probably already know this, but if you want a manual transmission your only option is the 3.6. I have a 6MT, but if there were other engine options to pair with it I may have thought hard about the diesel. Since there was no choice, I have the 3.6L

I had a 2018 JL as well (6MT) with the 3.6L and never had any issues/concerns. I know in the past diesels would run "forever" (almost literally) but I don't think that's the case any more. I've gotten over 200k miles on the old 3.8L (JKs) as well.

I'd totally have considered the diesel if it was available with a manual. The fuel economy would have been a wash for me, because diesel fuel costs a lot more than gasoline here in Pa, and the added 6k (4k engine + 2k transmission) was a bit steep . Plus, I just like driving a manual. It's fun. I've had plenty of fast cars, so even the diesel wouldn't satisfy my need for speed, and it would still handle like a jeep. But the torque would be VERY nice.

And what if you don't have a different truck.
Can the Diesel, even though it is rated for 6000lbs max,
pull a 7000lbs load?
In the 1500 it’s close to 12000 lbs. so can the power train pull it yea probably?? I pull my 31foot camper with my diesel

I would have gotten the Mojave except it doesn't come in diesel, because then it wouldn't be a Mojave.
Think of the diesel as the ultimate Road warrior Jeep, not the ultimate off-roader Jeep. Not that it isn't capable.
With softer springs lift kit, and adjustable shocks, the diesel Rubicon becomes the best of both except for perhaps jumping; if you're into that sort of thing, lol.

BTW, lifts and tires will decimate factory MPG #s on the diesel.
