Be careful with ANY of the mounts that use the passenger side grab bar above the glovebox. The airbag deploys above the grab bar, but also creates a "curtain" that goes upwards toward the windshield and, more importantly, DOWN below the grab bar (in front of it, then down toward the passenger's legs). ANYTHING mounted on the bar will get ejected, either toward the driver or toward the passenger's mid-section.

I had a CB mount here, but saw an NHSTA video and quickly removed it.

Wanted to chime in about the Offroam phone mount. Read a few reviews and did a little research and ordered the complete kit, with vent mount, arm and phone holder. Very pleased with the quality and thought put into this product. Apparently the phone holder is more user friendly than the first generation they sold. The spring tension isn't quite as strong, allowing a simple one hand insert / release.

Very secure mount. Shipping was fast too.

.... I just finished my CB mount in that area. Time to reconsider it. :headbang:

Update: Thanks to quick shipping by Offroam (and very friendly customer service) I was able to install everything today. Ended up going with a Spiegen MagSafe mount. At some point I would like to get a power source behind the dash but I can live with the exposed bit of cable for now.

Good call, this worked out great, although I went with the ESR.

I'm also using the offroam vent mount. I had a 67D mount in my JL but when I traded it in I could not for the life of me get the 20mm ball mount to come off the dash, so I left it. I kept the arm and the phone holder (similar to the offroam, I think) and then ordered the 20mm vent/ball from offroam.

I was incredibly surprised by how sturdy it is, especially when inserting/removing my phone.

I posted earlier that I had used an inexpensive phone mount from Amazon. Well, it didn't position the phone where I wanted so replaced it with a Bullet Point mount.

I have to say I'm blown away by the quality. You definitely get something for the extra money you spend. The entire thing is machined aluminum and carbon fiber. I am very happy with it. And it is very solid.

Any chance you can take a picture of the backside? I love this setup and am curious which Offroam mount to purchase. I saw you said you bought the 17mm. Do you use the Spigen arm or did you use one from Offroam? I saw Offroam only sells a 20mm or a 1" arm, so I'm curious how you adapted it.

Thanks!

I didn't use either arm. The charger is connected directly to the ball on the offroam mount. I wanted to keep it as low profile and unobtrusive as possible. I can get a picture for you sometime this weekend. This is the base.

The offroam vent mount is REALLY sturdy. Just as sturdy as my 67D was that was screwed and 3M'd into the upper dash (like where the bulletpoint mounts go). And, it can be removed!

Looking for a magsafe charger (iPhone 12) that extends out of the cigarette lighter and would clear the 4wd lever. Something like this but longer, maybe with a flexible arm that can hold itself up. Have not found the right solution in searching. Has anybody seen something that would work?

This is the idea but too short and no flex.

This is closer but looks like it does not support itself with phone attached and does not plug directly in

You should get a commission. I just ordered one of their mounts today based off this comment.
