It never ends. I got 35s and wish I had gotten 37s. But I have the Rubicon with 4.10 gears and really need to re gear, IMO. I will regear and be ready for the 37s when its time.

Yeah the 35's look great - but it's not that simple. If you're going to go bigger than 33's, you really would need to re-gear because of the issues described by joyride above.

Re-gearing is expensive and honestly not worth it, for me at least. I'll be going to 33's when I buy new tires.

I had 33s and 3.73 Drivability was fine in the mountains.
Went to 35s with the Terrflex 1.5 and Rubicon take offs.
2 weeks later put 4.88 in. At 6,000 feet where I live the truck was a dog running 3.73. Once it got rolling it was fine. But getting it there was not.
The 35s with 4.88 were a game changer for off road.
The truck is snappy on the throttle again and I see 8th gear all the time.
It's not a fast and facetious street racer, but it gets out of the way when I need it to.

I found this chart useful:

Anyone have any issues with 35's and the 4.10 gears that come in a Rubicon?

I have a Rubicon with 4:10 and 37's and it is an auto. I have no issues on or off-road. I am sure different gears would make it better but this truck is no race car anyway so....

The problem in my mind is that stepping up to 35s+ (done properly - lift, regearing, etc.) means thousands of dollars...not to mention more frequent stops at the gas pump due to reduced fuel economy. I guess it MIGHT look a little better, but that's really subjective. If it's a daily driver and you actually use it as a truck (as I do), I'd stick with 33s all day.

Sorry, newer to the forum and still learning the navigation.
All good, it was just a question. If you edit your post there should be an option to add a poll.

I went back and forth on this , I have a Sport with 3.73 and have come to my personal opinion that 33s (285 70 17 ) so 32.7ish are really the max for me. I live in the low country in SC but have driven to /through the mountains in NC and averaged 21 mpg on one of those trips, I can still hit 8th at 50 mph

Boostnu, is yours a gasser? And what difference do you notice from going to 315/70? Any issues with shifting etc? Do you still hit 8th gear? I've already eliminated going with the 35's, I know the 315/70 are close but I seem to see a ton of people with this tire size with 3:73 gears.

Gonna go against the grain and say that with the 3:73, I think you need to stay with the 33's.
I have 33's and I'm using running a 4:10. It will make a difference and personally, looks are secondary to reasonable performance.

Good luck.

I’m getting an Overland and pondering 295/70/18s, which are essentially a 34 inch tire. Hoping that isn’t too aggressive for the stock 3.73 gearing.

That size in Falken Wildpeaks Is what I have on my 80AE. On the tire, they are labeled as 34x11.5. Oddly enough, they are taller mounted than the 315/70R17 on my daughters JKU.

As for the gearing issue, the 8 speed auto picks up a lot of the slack when it comes to gearing.
For a comparison, the wife’s 20 Willys JLU came factory with 255/75R17 and 3.45 gears. It drives perfectly.
My JT was equipped with 255/70R18 and the 3.73 gear. Swapping to the 295/70R18 changed my effective gear ratio to 3.49, which is still a bigger gear than hers has from the factory. After recalibration with Jscan, I have zero drivability issues. I still see 8th gear on the highway.
