Ok folks I now have an answer to the question. And Iron Wolfpack huge apologies. I incorrectly thought that the silver truck in top picture was a Gladiator. Now looking closer I can now see that it is not a Gladiator, my bad.

Earlier today I got a call from a local dealer to let me know that he just got 2 Gladiators in. I took a tape measure to the bed and a sheet of plywood will fit, will have to sit on the little lip beside the gas pipe buldge. And you really will have to put a piece of 2X4 across the wheel wells as plywood would just barely sit on the passenger side wheel well. And this is why you would really need to put a 2X4 across the bed over the wheel wells plus the supports that Jeep advised about in their bed loading instructions.

A full 4x8 sheet of plywood fits just fine in the bed... ask me how i know! :like:

It doesn't hit the fuel filler bump at all.

Though I do disagree with the comment that "you are ready to haul all the plywood that you need." There is a 300 lb limit in the "plywood" position...

So now that the owners manual is out (https://www.jeepgladiatorforum.com/forum/threads/gladiator-owners-manual-download-in-pdf.15679/), here's some PLYWOOD details.
  • The manual states that PLYWOOD should be supported as shown.
  • Max payload for the mid tailgate position is 300 lb. 3/4" PLYWOOD is about 60 lb/sheet, which means you can only carry 5 sheets of 3/4".

@Rob_Quadratec Thank you for helping those whom require reassurance that the Gladiator can indeed do basic truck stuff, and proving it 4 times over haha.

Enjoy the videos you guys post and looking forward to the many gladiator videos to come from Quadratec!

@JAY, IT ISN'T BEDTIME YET!

You stated in the most recent, news flash, https://www.jeepgladiatorforum.com/plywood-question-put-to-bed-yes-they-fit-flat-in-the-gladiator/ that "P.S. in case you didn’t know — setting the Gladiator’s three-position tailgate on the middle setting matches the top of the tailgate up with the tops of the rear wheel housing and enables the Gladiator to carry 20 sheets of 4×8 plywood or drywall flat; this is according to Jeep."

Well the JT manual says we can only put 300lbs weight on the tailgate at half position. So we still have a possible bed problem!

Even 1/4" plywood weighs about 22 lbs per sheet, at 19 sheets that's, 418lbs......hey @JeepCares , which is it, 418lbs or 300lbs? Is Engineering right, or is Marketing right? Or did Marketing not take the engineer's numbers correctly?

More trips will be necessary!!! So if the weight is distributed in three places, a third of a sheet of 3/4 inch (total 68lbs) would be 22.67lbs. you could only carry 13 sheets for the 300lbs limit. 13 times the 68lbs is 884lbs so well under the payload capacity!!

Hi steffen707,
We have checked with our internal resources and after conducting additional testing, Jeep engineering has confirmed that up to 500 lbs payload can be carried in the bed with the tailgate in the mid position. This payload rating is dependent on the sheet cargo being properly supported with 2x4s positioned in the bed as specified by the owner's manual. Future printings of the owner's manual will show the new 500 lbs payload. I hope this offers some clarification!
