Dawned on me the other day that I hadn't updated my policy for the work done to the truck, and if it's totaled I will never get the parts or money back. You can add upgrades to your coverage if you want to insure your parts.

Not sure every insurance has this, what do you call that type of insurance?

Interesting and good to know. I suppose a lot of this would then be tallied much like an agreed value rider. I like that they have a check box for custom mural paint, can't ever put too high a value on the laguna scene. I kid but still good to know if you had a vinyl wrap done, you could get something back if it got stuffed.

I actually had a conversation with my insurance agent about this before I put my lift and tires on. Apparently my insurance company just automatically covers them.

I gather what he is getting at is documenting the changes. Imagine the fraud otherwise; what do you mean, of course I have the full teraflex system on there, to claim otherwise would be an affront to my mustache good sir and I demand payment forthwith!

That, and I would not trust they 'just cover' the $15k of upgrades. They will need a premium to insure the added amount.

It will depend on your carrier, with my new wheels and tires ( Rubicon take offs) USAA suggested that I keep pictures of the truck. I am sure a more extensive upgrade will require documentation and payment.

I have full coverage but I will eventually put a ryder* on my policy when I am through modding.

Installed my own theft device.

Years ago alarm shops unknowingly employed car thiefs.
Most have GPS tracking now but still.

Until then I keep all my stock parts in case it is totalled.

That way I can strip all my un damaged mods or at least buy back the salvage from my insurance company to do so. Then part it out.

I still own a small body shop so your mileage may vary. Per say...

*ryder might be spelled differently now or verbiage may have changed.

Almost 65 and have not modded so hard for 3 decades, lol.

IMO
Photocopy & photograph every expenditure.
Those before and after pics are perfect.
Many lesser insurers are like tits on a boar hog, worthless.
