I thought they were both fads that would go the way of the DoDo bird. They both seem to have gained traction.

At least not displaying any ducks on my dash I don't get "ducked" often anymore. Now, if I lay my pistol down during a cold range and return and a red dot is on it, I'm not going to throw it in the grass.

I'm a green dot guy also. 68 year old eyes have trouble seeing both the target and the sights. Getting old doesn't suck but does change things.
As far as the ducks go, I 'work' at a golf course part time which has many members. I have found several ducks on my Glad there which doesn't please me but I would hate to toss them and piss off one of the members who might have put them there.

You younger peeps with good eyes have NO CLUE ……. Wait until you get older.

Red/Green dots allow you to get a site picture easier and faster. What’s wrong with that?? It’s beneficial in all aspects…from self defense, policing, competitions, etc. The faster you get the site picture, the faster you can shoot the criminal who’s trying to kill you.

But seriously…. I wear glasses and have bifocals. The iron sites are one big BLURR…. I can’t tell where they are in relation to the target. If I pitch my head UPwards to see the sites in my bifocals….then the target is one big BLURR.
So yes…. every pistol we own (that we shoot regularly), has a red or green dot on it. I can easily train with both eyes open and concentrate on the site picture.

And no….. nothing like ducks.

Pistol dots very useful. Shooting with irons does not even come close for the vast majority.

They do have their place. Tactically speaking. Improving “on target” time is paramount in certain situations. Then I can see them being useful. Just going plinking at the range I don’t really see a need unless training for the first situation. I prefer the Trijicon Reflex sight myself on a long gun. Not too crazy about fancy sights on a secondary. If someone sneaks one on my pistol I’m not gonna throw it in the ditch though.

Well...unfortunately...that'll never happen.... If your gun is 'optic ready' - you still need the appropriate optic plate with the right screws & loctite. Takes probably 10 minutes to put one on.

This all depends on the gun and dot. I have direct mounts on several of mine. The GLOCK had to have a plate. It also only takes about 5 to add one on at the range, well at least for me. It also helps that I am an instructor.
