.22lr is a great caliber to have. I’ll always have my Ruger 1022 and my H&R 922 around. Not much for all out defense but solid and reliable.
My M&P22 AR with a 1-6 optic and a can on the front is probably one of the most fun items I have.

It's great for critters around the house. Plinking, etc.

Now add a FRT device and have some real fun.

Self defense like everyone should be?
Lucky me, I have reached my 60's without being afraid. :) Spent 6 years of my youth in the suck and after that I was an LEO In S. FL. I've seen my share of violence yet outside of those professions I have never felt scared enough to need one.

Do you wear a seatbelt out of fear or common sense? Being prepared isn't being afraid. But if you're scared of guns that's ok too. It's a right not a mandate and if you don't train and you're scared we are all better off of you don't carry.

Wearing a seat belt is the law. Afraid of guns? I volunteered to serve my country and later my community. I guess I trained in self confidence.

Depends on the state. You can still ride in the back of a truck or ride a motorcycle with no helmet in AZ. It's dumb, but it's not law. All of those things, including firearms, most of us will never actually need. Those that do are glad they had them. Those that didn't have them found out the hard way when it was too late. It's not hard to be prepared just in case. I also have 0 desire to prove my manhood in a fight with a bear, mountain lion, or other critters we often encounter out wheeling/camping. Better to have and not need than the other way.

Rather short sighted thinking anyone who trains in self defense or carries a firearm is doing so because they lack self confidence or are just plain scared.

I would rather be prepared to not so much protect myself but to protect others that cannot, sort of the same reason I pack more tools and stuff for a trail run than I will likely need. That way I can help someone else who was not scared of breaking down get off the trail.

Back when I was going out with a particular group of friends, the train of thought in that group was always amusing to me.

One was (still is) in law enforcement. Pretty sure he rarely had a firearm on him outside of work (in his Jeep was a different story). Another (not LEO) was always armed. Could tell because I could always hear his leather holster creaking, and he'd always go stash his pistol in his truck if we were walking down the block to sit at the bar a while.

Anyway - I don't care who is or isn't, always chuckled at the one you think would be carrying, isn't - and the one you thought maybe wasn't - was.

There's always that one who's gotta antagonize and then I have to come in and be the a-hole.

I'm on another car enthusiast forum with a 2A thread and it's so damn funny when the Fudd's and antis poke their heads in. Usually they drop in with a news story and run. And it's the same trope, same slanted agenda that fails any sort of logical thought process.

I usually respond with the typical sarcastic hyperbole:

Only military and LEO should have guns! Because they're trained! - In response to NDs, shoot-outs where criminal survives, DVs w/ weapons, attacks on bases
There oughta be a law! - Shootings at places where firearms are prohibited, prohibited people using firearms illegally, illegal firearms used illegally

The great thing about this country is it was founded on the belief of choice. The opportunity of freedom to choose.

I like firearms. I like the mechanics, I like the looks, I like the way they go "pew pew pew." I like the smell. When I don't shoot my firearms, I miss them. I miss the way they fit in my hand. I miss their musk.

Just kidding. Just trying to work in a Ron Burgundy joke in here.

I've always like target shooting of some sort. Archery, bb gun, hatchet, darts, rubber band...

Being competent with a firearm means training with it, understanding what you do when there's a functional problem. If you train to compete - whether it's against others or against yourself and a clock, good for you. If you train to be able to react to a hostile event, great. If more people behaved in similar fashion, it stands to reason our society would be a little more polite today.

Maybe those 4 LEOs killed in the Lakewood, WA coffee shop would still be alive if more people were prepared.

Maybe that school in Texas could have been spared if someone driving by was prepared to deal with a young man walking towards it with an AR.

Note I'm saying "prepared" not "shoot" as we don't know intentions/actions. Some people just like to bait people with exercising 2A rights in rare situations.

But to take a Trump quote out of context for a fantastic point: "There are good people on both sides" - my buddy, who's retired LEO and been shooting since he was knee high to a grasshopper, got pulled over a few years after his LEO days. After the greeting, he says to the LEO, "as a courtesy, I'm letting you know I'm carrying, I have my license in my wallet, and my firearm is concealed on my right hip." The LEO flipped out and started yelling at him, saying that's the first thing you need to be saying (it isn't, there's no duty to inform in the state), blah blah blah.

So yeah, basically long post to say we're all having a nice wonderful, civil conversation. People can go be

You know. I have a Remington 870 AND a lil ole Viper Vortex dot - and it needs a home.

Guess I just need to get a rail put on my 870.

🤣
