Are you saying your truck is a 5/5? If so what lift do you have? And do you have lockers?
I'm saying my truck is very capable and the limitation is me, not the truck. I have lockers, Clayton 2.5" overland plus with on board air and winch. Standard mods.

Technically speaking, extremely capable. But lots of variables depending on what kind of wheeling you do and proportionately what kind of terrain you’d consider would require a 5/5. Ie for me mine is 5/5 for wheeling I do but for Moab or extreme rock crawling it’s probably 2.5/5.

How capable is the Gladiator with...
  • 80th edition (Trac-Lok® Anti-Spin Rear Differential)
  • Diesel
  • Mopar lift
  • 13.5"x37"s
  • Rockslide sliders
  • American Adventure inner liners
  • Warn winch (got it after getting stuck in the mud, no fun!!!)
I've been out only twice - stuck in the mud in Utah, Mud is bad! ?
And I've been out in Cleghorn California, was concerned about some of those hills, but it did ok without the mopar lift

Simple 1-5 score:
I am guessing a 3.5?

Note: Simply requesting a sense of capability from veterans
I'm no expert, but I know enough to know what I don't know.

And with the right driver that truck could do almost anything a jeep could do. So it all comes down to driver skill and experience.

I just watched a Wrangler Unlimited owner go up like a 5 foot sheer rock face with what appeared to be 37s. Huge skill there. Just astonishing. I'll never be that good just because I have other hobbies.

4/5 rig
3/5 driver, due to a lack of desire to bash it against rocks

If I was serious about offroading, I'd have 37s over my 35s, and I'd have another inch or two of lift.

No.

Question was for OP.

Great pic of your rig though. Where is it?
Anywhere, from mud to rock to sand. Was just trying to get a sense of capability. Sounds like the driver has a lot to do with it. And it sounds like the truck as is would do fine, but it would be nice to have some front lockers. Other than that feel like it should be ok.

Gotcha, makes sense. I was looking for an overall ability of the truck - and it sounds like it might be considered a 3.5 overall - that is if I get lockers.

As an overlanding vehicle my Rubicon is without a doubt 5/5.
we took our stock build on a 5k trip from va to co and ut and ran some hard trails that had been made more difficult by rain and some snow.

Never got stuck and only had to engage the rear locker once when I backed down Hogback on the WRT to tow a new Bronco up as the driver had chickened out half way up and refused to keep going as he was slipping… I wish I had my camera out as it would have made a great shot to send to Jeep.

The stock Jeep is more capable than 98% of the people who drive them..?

Great to know ?

If you get time can you add your specs like above:

  • specs???

That way people newer to 4x4ing will get a sense of your vehicle & its capabilities. Thanks

As I said the Rubicon is stock as far as the truck is concerned ( stock tires, gears etc) with an AluCab canopy, RTT and a few mods in the bed. Here’s a picture from our campsite on the WRT..

Stock suspension Mojave, only suspension mod is Apex disconnects. GFC camper and gear. I go out for 2-4 weeks at a time so it's more of my home/support vehicle then anything else. I've done moderate trails, nothing horrific, the biggest problem I've personally encountered is the long wheel base and poor break over angle. Did 1/2 of Mojave Road a week ago didn't use the locker, performed flawless, except as mentioned break over. I skipped Soap Lake because it started to rain (and thunder storm), I guess it turns into snot after a rain, also skipped the water ford part because I was solo and fuck doing a solo recovery in water. BTW I don't think I would do it solo again even though it's fairly moderate. My youngest brother wants to do it now, I just might finish it next time. My Mojave is awesome, I love it, I'm a tuff judge, I give mine a 4.5 out of 5 for my personal usage and application.
