Same for me, I liked the Metalcloaks, wife liked the RSE. Happy wife, happy life. And I don't think you will be disappointed with them.
Yeah my buddy has them on his JTM, so I knew that was the way to go. Cheers

Short story: i have 3 hide-a-steps that you are welcome to for whatever UPS charges to pack and ship them. If you throw in beer money, even better but not required.

Long version: I have 3 sets of the hide-a-step in my garage. Two were given to me by another member and are powdercoated rough black. The third is an unused unfinished metal that I bought. Much like you I didn't want to pay the RSE price. I also had the additional obstacle of needing to modify the hide-a-steps because of my original Slider (never modded them). By the time that I had a chance to modify the hide-a-steps, I had the money for the RSE steps ... so I just went with them. If you want the hide-a-steps, they are yours for whatever UPS charges to pack and ship them. If you throw in beer money, even better but not required.
I'll take the offer for 2 black ones if the OP aren't interested.

Rockslide Engineering has what you want. You would also want to add their additional armor with them. We ran them for a long time on One of our company JT's which seen a good bit of wheeling 6, 7, and 8 rated trails . For a slider/step its the only option to look at if you intend on wheeling and still want them to work unfortunately its a Buy once Cry once type of thing.
Unfortunately I have to report nothing but problems with my Rockslide Engineering step sliders.

I only got a few months of use from my set before issues began with them not fully opening, and eventually failing entirely.

The motor has been replaced. It worked for a short period before they stopped operating properly again.

I have maintained these exactly as indicated by the company, but they keep failing. Now I just keep them closed and they are only sliders… no steps.

I installed the Go Rhino steps, they weren't cheap, nice steps & maintain ground clearance. My wife doesn't like them because it's still a high step for her. Next year might go with retractable steps.

Does any company make retractable steps that tie into the factory harness? i.e. not having to put a magnet and sensor onto the door.

I assume its possible since my overhead light comes on when my door opens. I also assume its not possible because somebody more knowledgeable than me would have figured it out by now.

White Knuckle is probably the strongest slider in my opinion, mounting to the frame and allow you to keep extra rocker protection from the Rubicon rails is a big, big W.
I have White Knuckle Sliders on mine and agree they are one of the strongest available.

I’m running a RK 3.0 lift with BFG 39’s and my wife has no problem getting in or using them to move around on while we setup the RTT.

Another vote for RSE steps with armor and lights, here! Saves the back, knees, arms, etc. when wheeling! Let alone just getting in and out of the JTR!

Looks good!

IMO, they are the best slider that can also be a step…. Not a step that is a decent slider. The other electric options are nice, but with enough bashing they’ll stop working. These WK’s will out live the motor and trans in my truck I’m sure.

That sir, is the best description of the White Knuckle Sliders for the JT that I have ever read. 😎

"Buy once Cry once type of thing."
I wish it was a "Buy once Cry once" type of thing, but that has not been my experience. Within the first year after I put them on the motor on the driver's side had to be replaced ... gears were stripped. The following year the same thing.

While Rock Slide did provide the replacement motors at no cost, it cost around $300-400 to have it replaced, each time. I believe there is something wrong with the driver's side step. When the step is extended, the step moves quite a bit as if it isn't fully bottomed out against the stops. This was true when they were ordinally installed new, true with the first motor replacement, and the same with the replacement this year. I feel that much movement is putting undue stress on the gears when I'm entering/leaving the truck. I'm a hefty guy, closing in on 285 lbs. but the steps should handle that weight with no issues.

I mentioned to this installers again this year, they said if the springs were adjusted any further the steps would not fully retract.

The initial year I did a fair amount of trail riding but generally 7 rating or less. This year there were no trails but the JT was towed behind the motorhome for an 11K mile trip to Canada and Alaska and back.

When it goes, the step stays down or only move a few inches.

I did call the company but was deferred to sending an email, no real assistance on the phone.
