So, is the tailgate of the Gladiator NOT metal?

Aluminum is metal. The tailgate, doors and I think even the hood is aluminum.

On the Mojave the hood is steel, not sure why. It weighs a chunk compared to my aluminum JL hood.

The Mojave wasn't out when I posted this. I didn't know they were steel on the Mojave, that is odd that the one model would have a different material, would think there would be an added cost to having two?

Electrolysis happens - if there's moisture present.
Zinc is a sacrificial coating and self healing in that even if a zinc plating is scratched, the metal below is still protected until the zinc is gone far enough. (I do zinc plating and passivation)

I wonder if the automotive industry treats the aluminum with Alodine before priming and paint.

As I'm thinking about it, maybe how it's shaped made it necessary to make it in steel, it has a lot of curves and bulges

Be grateful for metal, the neighbor just brought home a new tundra, the rear quarter panels and tail gate are plastic. Even HotWheels builds the bodies out of metal. How far away are we from a Little Tikes full size Gladiator edition?

Alodine is pretty poisonous, so I would say doubtful. Often seen on aviation hardware.

Couldn’t you just remove the inner tailgate panel, glue a strong magnet to the inside of the tailgate. Then swap your chosen magnet on the outside? I’m not an expert but I don’t think thin aluminum will block a strong enough magnet.

Oh I got a sport hood. Its aluminium. Maybe 1/3 the Mojave hood.

Calcium, sodium, cobalt, lithium, something like 90 or so metals in the periodic table. Most elements are metals.
Typically a metal is a conductor of electricity etc.

Frames, crumple zones, etc. As long as the cabin's occupant area survives, the rest can be total trash and unrecognizable after a crash.

I checked my Rubicon hood and it is aluminum. i have heard that there were some steel Rubi hoods out there probably used due to a temporary parts shortage.

I remember reading this a while back and just now checked my Sport S. Everything except the bed sides is aluminum. I guess I just assumed more was metal.
