I have always carried a full size spare and matching wheel on my Jeeps. You never know when you are going to need it. One time I did in the middle of nowhere. Stick through the sidewall, not patchable.

I found the picture of why I always carry a spare. Caught the top of this tree, laying across the trail, just right!

Ya, sometimes no matter how many plugs you have, it just cant be repaired.

This thread prompted to look for a single matching wheel and found this local today, it was on a Rubicon that never left the lot. Going to replace my spare steel wheel with this and do a 5-tire rotation. Now what to do with the spare steel wheel?

I bought new rim and tire 37" and deflated so it would fit under the truck. I have the ARB compressor so no problem to air up if needed. Maybe the rim purchase was a waste of money? Thinking about 5 wheel rotation. Bought tires from Discount tires and not sure if they do 5 tire rotations.

I'd say just wrong............ reminds me of when my wife took her brand new Camaro out to a part time job (to help pay for her new car) and as she rounded the turn into the parking lot - caught the top of a broken Mountain Dew bottle right through the sidewall.

Sure they will - all you have to do is ask. It's in the owner manual of many vehicles, including OTHER Jeep vehicles. Check the Grand Cherokee book - it says "if you have matching wheel and tire...." and suggests the 5 tire rotation.
POSSIBLE they'd charge for the extra but then most places won't. Just tell them to rotate it in. I assume you have the TPMS in that spare rim?


Wouldn't mind finding a single Rubicon wheel to match mine but then when these are worn I'll likely just buy A/T tires for my Overland wheels - I do have a 5th Overland wheel.

Sell that spare steel wheel to pay for the matching wheel. Plenty of guys looking to run "steelies" on their Jeeps.

I bought a set of Rubicon wheels cheap locally. I took the best wheel and sold the other 3 to guys looking for a spare. It paid for my spare and part of my 37" for the spare.

Your local Discount Tire store will be happy to do a 5 tire rotation for you. It will help prolong the life of your tires as well.

There ya go - the answer from the top! Can't beat that. I suspected they would. Customer service is what counts. Anyone can sell tires, it's the added value I look for.

Question, well actually 2
1. I bought all 5 tires from Discount but my builder put them together and convinced me to add Bead Balancing I. Addition to weights. I have noticed some weights have fallen off but still no indication of vibration. Is this still OK or could this cause issues in the future?
2. When rotating tires do the pressure sensors have to be moved as well? Which means opening the tires ?

I gotcha lol. I’ve only owned wranglers, so I had no clue.

I just bought a used 37'' tire and mounted it on the spare steel wheel. Nobody can see it anyway and gives me a peace of mind !!
