The decision to lie and cheat in order to offer a product they knew wasn't going to pass is 100% a Stellantis problem. Nobody told them they had to offer a diesel, and if the only way they could do it is by lying, then the decision to proceed is entirely a Stellantis issue.
Welcome to capitalism.

Yes, was likely a Stellantis decision that they would make more money on the product than would cost them in fines and lost customers.
Yes sir. Just like pharma companies do. The fines are built into the financial projections.
It's a slap on the wrist compared to the profits.
Whether we like it or not, it is the way the game is played.

One of my compound turbo Cummins 3500 trucks releases more smoke idling during a three minute period than both of my Ecodiesel Jeeps will release in both their lifetimes.

you know this kind of stuff just has "top-down management problem" written all over it.

Set unreasonable goals, give no leniency for reality, and threaten people's jobs for not being able to make fiction into reality, and suddenly you've got senior project managers cutting corners to appease their unruly bosses.
Sadly...same as it ever was.
Nothing will ever change. Until we start hanging corporate executives for lying and fraud, not a gosh darn thing will ever change.

I never understood the equation. Diesels on average produce 30% greater efficiency then gas at only about a 2.5% emissions increase. Yet politicians keep increasing emission regulations on diesel thus decreasing their efficiency. It’s almost like someone wants less economical transportation…

*numbers are made up but represent real world comparisons

It's not much different then the fight over leaded fuel, it comes down to striking a balance.

Yeah but that’s back when gasoline really smelled good…

wow that must’ve really been a long day maybe I need to go to bed.

Admittedly I did not read the articles posted earlier. The question needs to be asked is part of the settlement they turn down the engines to produce less emissions? Do we need to be extremely leery about having dealerships flash our computers to reduce power?

One would think that the industry would have learned from the VW diesel fiasco, but here we are again. @Rahkmalla is spot on, that unreasonable goals, and I'll add government regulation which is increasingly and unrealistically growing beyond the technology, coupled with executive pressures for profit are at the core.
This wasn’t government regulation, just corporate corruption and just plain lies.

Yes and no.

Air pollutants related to emissions (diesel NOx emissions specifically) have been linked to increased infant mortality rates. In other words, it is a serious problem, especially in places like Europe where an ass load of people drive diesel vehicles.
That’s right. This has nothing to do with government regulation and everything to do with corporate corruption and just plai lies.

Just another green boondoggle to transfer money from consumers and corporations and into these insane environmental agendas.
