Yea, overprice things as financing rates make it harder to buy more expensive things and people stop buying. Large rebates are nice and all, but not every consumer shops MSRP-rebates, sometimes people just form a list based on the most rudimentary information, and make first round eliminations based on that before digging deeper.

Also, for those who DO dig deeper, announcing the 2025s will cost less than the 2024s is probably going to hurt 2024 sales quite a bit. Why buy something almost a year old now when you can wait a couple months and get a newer thing for less?

Price is a huge factor in falling sales for the mid-size pickup segment in general. Where's the value in a mid-size pickup when you can buy a full-size pickup with a V8, 4WD, 6' bed and better fuel economy for less?

The whole segment is looking at an 8% sales decline for the year:

Automakers whose ticker symbols are a permutation of LAST are losing market share.

The obvious solution is to change the ticker symbol. That's why I make the big bucks.

Retired. Beach bum.
I’m proud to say I am part of that sales percentage, we both a 2024 Sport S, in Crystal Granite Metallic, auto hardtop with a safety package including adaptive cruise control and rear blind spot, plus convenience package with heated seats and steering wheel, garage door opener, plus UConnect WIFI 4G LTE, basic 8 speaker system that’s ok. The MSRP was just over $51k, we found a dealer offering a $15k combined discount, so basically what a used 2023 is selling for. Coming from the last two trucks, 2016 Colorado Ext Cab 4x4 Z71, 2019 Colorado Crew Cab 4x4 WT, that were both trouble free and great loaded and towing at a Cat Scale certified 10,250 lbs CGVW, for thousands of miles. That I felt a very precise rack and pinion steering system the Gladiator can’t compare with, but I’ve grown used to. But the ride in the Gladiator loaded and empty is a lot better, even still with stock black shocks, I wish to replace with Bilstein 5100’s like I added to both the others. I also got the best extended warranty I could at the dealers like the Chevy, so IF in need it while still making payments will help. Still better to me than any Import brand. Stillantis has miscalculated the American market/buyer, by over pricing their vehicles in an attempt at higher profit, well then how has that worked? The dealers tell me the only vehicle they sell are the ones discounted at least 10-20%! But very little at msrp that are gathering dust on their lots and showrooms! So all Stallantis must do is wish for 5-10% on each of the hundreds of thousands, instead of 15-30% on the tens of thousands they can actually sell.

I think Stellantis sucks as an ownership group for Mopar, but I really do like my Gladiator. I have wanted one since 2020, and the size is absolutely perfect. I guess with sales down, they are fairly scarce now? I've been surprised at the attention my Mojave garners, people always want to touch it and look at it, it's kind of weird

24 Tacoma numbers should be taken as an outlier. MY23 to MY24 is a generation change and Toyota had a lapse in delivery for a while. Typically new year Tacomas start arriving in Q3-Q4, as early as August. The MY24s were closer to Q1 before steady delivery was achieved. Basically a whole quarter of non delivery and likely the reason YtoY is down 26%. Q2 2024 to Q2 2025 will be more accurate for the Tacomas.

Last I checked the V8 option is really pretty much down to Chevy now. Toyota, Nissan and now Ram have all moved away from V8s as of the MY25 trucks. Sucks. Im sure I've forgotten something out there, but its now a rarity.

I think the top tier mid size options (Rubicon, Mojave, TRD Pro, Trail Boss) skew the price market a bit. Entry to mid grade full size with 4WD pretty much retail at the low 50k area now. There's always an overlap in top tier mid size and entry level full size. My 2021 Tundra TRD OR cost less than my 2018 Tacoma TRD OR.

I agree otherwise though and the only reason I'm in the JTM is because of intended use. I miss a full size bed and power everyday, but off road was stressful, so was the city. Its really personalized though, I'd agree fully with you all day if the option was full size vs a Tacoma, having owned two. I really love my JTM though, and that does bias my perspective.

Toyota's not learning much it seems though, fully opted Tacoma Pro is now 65.5k with no options. In my area, good luck finding one w/o mark up.

Edit: Ford just reported.
Sobering numbers, I was part of the movement in the late nineties to build a Wrangler pickup. AEV stepped up and built one for $70 K for the V8. What I am learning from these numbers is there is not a market for a Jeep pickup unless someone can explain the poor sales. It appears that there is a market for a cheaper built Jeep Truck, but with all the components Jeep owners asked for that simply was not possible. Buy a Gladiator now, because if I was in charge of marketing for Jeep pickups, Gladiators would be on the chopping block to bring back profitability.
