Do you think we’d get more hits if we called it a check engine / p0300 registry Instead of survey? Could the thread’s name be changed?
I swapped out my loaner for a ram 1500 today. Dealer is convinced they have fixed the problem but I am skeptical.
Buyback manager has emailed me twice but still no actual phone call.
The dealership washed the thing and installed my slush mats so I think they are aware how pissed off I am about this whole thing. Tomorrow will be day 11 of them having the truck and day 25 of ownership. This shit ain't right.
It’s more like they are aware of how pissed off you’re gonna be because they know it’s not fixed. They want you to think they actually did something. Get ready for that sinking feeling-looks like the only way through this is through some major replacement of half or all of the engine or a brand new vehicle.

My Gladiator has been in the shop almost the entire time I have owned it. The dealer does a test and waits for FCA to tell then what to do next. This takes forever or the dealer is not telling the truth.
Last week FCA offered to make a payment for me. I feel like this is a trap to prevent lemon law. This is just how I feel not sure if it is me being paranoid or just me having a hard time trusting FCA. I advised that I would need to discuss with my lawyer first.
Dealer called a couple of minutes later and advised that FCA wants them to removes my heads do compression test then get back to them with results.
I told them that I was not OK with them opening up my engine and would request the buyback. Based on Virginia lemon law I meet criteria with way over 30 days in the shop and this is the 3rd attempt to repair.
My case worker responded that she would have to transfer my case to another department because she only handles repairs not buybacks. That was last Thursday and I still have not heard back from a new case manager.
Do you guys think I'm correct in not wanting a brand new and expensive Jeep with an engine that has been worked on. I keep thinking about what the service records will look like if I try to resell this vehicle. I would run for the hills if i asked for service records and it had all of these issues listed.

Venting and asking for some input. This group is the only place I can get real answers.
Thanks
Welcome to the club. You’ll have to go back and read through the thread. It seems from the collective experience recorded here that you’re kind of at the mercy of the dealership. FCA isn’t going to do much unless lemon law forces them to buy it back. If you have a reputable dealer who values your business they will act with integrity because the dealer has the relationship with you. After 5th repair attempt the GM just swapped my Gladiator out with another that has exact features just different color. I still miss the red but I have a vehicle that hasn’t thrown a code yet. And I gotta say-not this has anything to do with the CEL-I got one of those “Smart Stop Start” things that remembers the last setting of the ESS switch and I love it. I hate ESS!

Couldn't agree more jwork435. I'm still waiting for FCA to complete the buy back. Offer agreed and paperwork signed over 2 weeks ago. Process since agreement with FCAs been over 2 months across 4 different FCA departments. Unfortunately my dealer disappeared. Would NOT entertain a swap. Only performed service via FCA engineers. Basically dealership wanted to wash their hands...

Sad thing is, I love the JT and willing to give it another shot. Definitely NOT with this dealership!

UPDATE:
My CEL has come back on twice since my last update, on 7/10 at 3243 miles and this morning at 4095 miles. This makes the 3rd and 4th time the CEL has come on. There have been several instances of random auto stop/start unavailability sprinkled throughout. The 3rd CEL cleared itself after only a day. Again, there doesn't seem to be any actual evidence of misfiring, so I'll keep driving it until my replacement backup camera comes in and i can make it to the dealer. Hopefully they can try TSB 18-053-20 while they're at it, although it's looking like that's having minimal success
UPDATE:
My CEL occurrences have been at the following mileages:
1st - About 900 miles (didn't log exact mileage)
2nd - 2080 miles
3rd - 3243 miles
4th - 4095 miles
5th - 4992 miles

For a while it seemed like there was a pattern. Somewhere around 850-1200 miles I'd get a CEL, usually preceded by the ESS light. I actually guessed the exact day my 4th CEL light came on the week before it happened. Since my 5th CEL however, I made it to 6684 miles with no actual attempts to fix the issue. On 8/13 the dealer was finally able to implement TSB 18-053-20. And again the dealer stated that the engine wasn't actually misfiring (idk how true that is). As of this post I'm at 6984 miles, almost 2000 miles since my last CEL. The ESS lights still happens occasionally backing out of my driveway immediately after startup, so I wouldn't say the entire issue is resolved just yet. Only time will tell if I have another CEL. I'll keep updating as things progress. At this point I have two qualified visits to the dealer to resolve this issue.

Did you get to keep the vehicle or a loaner during the entire buyback process?

Day 112. Dealership confirmed crated engine is on location. Start removal and plug n play tomorrow. FCA seems confident the damaged cylinder walls is the issue. Over 400 units have been identified according to dealer rep.

Any chance the damaged walls are result of the misfire?

I was told that a robotic device that drills and polishes the cylinder walls was defective and damaged the walls.

Unless there's detonation involved or the timing is WAAAY off, a misfire won't do physical damage.
If an injector is sticking and flooding the cylinder with fuel it can wash the oil off and scuff the cylinder wall but that's about it.

I think maybe the term "misfire" isn't really used correctly here at times.
A misfire is simply a "miss" - the cylinder didn't fire during that cycle. It's called a "miss".
"Miss" and "misfire" basically mean the same thing and are used interchangeably.

Damaged cylinder walls can mean loss of compression and cause either a steady miss or a random occasional miss. If oil gets to the chamber because of the damage, it can throw off any oxygen sensing and screw up the computer's work.

I have my truck back as of this morning.
Anyone want to bet the over/under on how long it lasts this time?

I am guessing 6 days.

And more than a few got out that way? Inspection? No? Geesh. When my father was an inspector, he'd shut things down if he caught anything off. Those days are gone, I guess. More than once he ticked others off.

Then there was the fellow a friend was telling me about- he worked for a company near Chicago that made relays and such for the auto industry. They hired a new inspector who was to test relays.
He was to do 10 iterations of the test on each.
If it failed even once, it was to be pulled as defective.
A few months went by and they started getting complaints, one of their customers, a car maker, told them to find out what the heck was up.
It seems this new guy was testing them for sure - and if it failed, he kept trying until he could get it to work 10 times, then he passed it. YIKES!
