Do you ever have any "connection" issues ? I have read ghat the Bluetooth adapter/app method has connection and information lag issues. This is why I was leaning towards a direct connection.
I don’t have any connection issues. I run the app on my phone most of the time. I also have an iPad that I built a gauge cluster that looks just like the off road pages. I use that sometimes but prefer the convenience of the phone.

I always warm it up and cool it down. But I have read, leaving it to idle for a while can really plug up the DPF and cause more regenerations. Maybe someone with some experience can chime in.
I warm it up for a couple minutes when it gets below freezing. I cool it down for about a minute. Other than that I just drive it.

For the ones using a OBD2 Bluetooth adapter and an app... how does this affect taking phone calls ? Does your phone stay connected to the Jeep/Audio and the OBD2 adapter at the same time ? Or is it one or the other ?

im not sure about this. I’m always plugged into a cord for Apple CarPlay. I don’t use the Bluetooth connection.

I think that depends on the phone. The newer ones should be able to connect to multiple devices at the same time. I've never tried it. I use a Bluetooth earpiece when working, but always connect to the truck with a cable.

While I agree with warming up, also need to be aware that excessive idle and low load can cause more frequent regens and EGR related issues. This is will vary slightly on semi trucks, tractors, and diesel pick up trucks/ cars.

You want to develop those higher temps and maintain them which in turn aids in burning the soot build up naturally (passive). Short trips of course, are not ideal.

There is typically a time programmed into the ECM that will trigger a "time based" active regen rather than a "differential pressure" based regen.

Generally, exhaust temps during an active regen (regen assisted by ECM) will be higher than a passive regen. Active regen, ECM will inject diesel into the exhaust stream via an injector or through in cylinder dosing (extra injection on exhaust stroke)

Not sure on eco diesel 3.0's but on other diesels, its 600-700 F (DOC outlet) for passive and 1200 F (DOC outlet) for active.

This of course is to clean the soot in the DPF, then you have SCR which is after the DOC/DPF. Purpose of thr SCR portion is to reduce NOx through a reaction using DEF mixed with the exhaust in the decomposition tube. Omce mixed, the exhaust flows to the SCR canister which then causes a reaction thus reducing NOx.

Keep in mind, there are other items that come into play so that was just a high level overview from my experiences with diesels.

Cheers.

Thanks for the great detail

I see @GRDIESEL uses an Iphone.... @KW80 , if you are using an Android or anyone else using the Android platform along with the OBD2 Bluetooth/App route, (I KNOW IT'S A PITA) but could you please disconnect from your cords and using Bluetooth ONLY, connect to your Jeeps Audio system and OBD2 Bluetooth module, run the application and see if you can still make and receive phone calls... I want to make sure my cellphone still operates 100% as a phone while also connected to my Audio system and the OBD2 adapter interface.

I would appreciate anyone's time and help. This could very well be the deciding factor.

I already keep my cell with me 100%... I have it mounted in my preferred spot... and $50 for the module/app is definitely better than $250... especially if I can get the same results.

Sorry, I use iPhones (work or personal) to connect with the OBD2 adapter. My iphone can be connected to OBD2 and still receive calls through the vehicle audio via Bluetooth. I would assume most modern phones are capable of simultaneous Bluetooth connections with other devices; think Bluetooth headset and smart watch combo.

I don't have a 3.0l to start off with. I do have a Duramax and I have run into the same issue. I'm not always going to do a long trip at 70mph. While my scan tool is plugged in and my EGTs are displayed, I found that I can drive in M3 or M4 holding the rpms between 1750and 2000. My EGTs will be over 1200, plenty hot enough for an active regen to occur without doing a cross country trip. Speed is not the target just the EGT. Someone with a monitor hooked up could try this and verify the RPM that will give the most heat. I did it once in M1 at the hunt club. I was still able to reach 1200, just too slow for the street.
