Teraflex 3.5” ST3 Extended Travel Lift coil issues.

Good day,

Just finished having this kit installed, and the included springs were totally insufficient in the rear. Lots of sag right from the get-go. TF was great and sent out their Outback HD coils to try and it was more of the same!!

Ended up having to temporarily put a 2” spacer above the coil and a 3/4” below to get the Jeep stance correct.

My rig is an overlander with a Smartcap, Bedslide, Fridge, recovery and camp gear. No RTT mounted, so it could potentially be heavier than it is!

Wondering what others are doing, and if there’s a better spring out there I should be using?!?

I would say yes, there are better options out there.

It might be Clayton that has the HD coils that people seem to like.

Thanks. I’d like to hear more than anecdotes, though - anyone go through something similar and get it resolved?? (I’ve emailed Clayton with specifics already).

Am I reading that right… you have 6 1/4” of lift in the rear and it’s still sagging that much???

You are not. The coil compressed too much, and the advertised 3.5” isn’t valid. We added 2.75” of spacers in addition to this compressed coil to get back to where things look appropriate.

Should weight your truck with all your gear to see how much weight you have on the front, rear, and combined. Give you a better idea of what's going on.

Airbags are an ongoing issue in Canada. They eventually crack and need replacement. Also a challenge to find the right fit for aftermarket coils. I just pulled the oem springs with airbags to do a proper lift.

Spacers are not the solution. AEV has HD springs that are meant to work with a constant load on 400-700 lbs. You should have a rough idea of the constant load your carrying and then find springs rates to match.

Clearly not the solution. This is as temporary as possible. Looking into Clayton (but they appear to be the same 400lb rating as TF Outback but with a third progressive zone), AEV and Dobinsons (both linear). I’m hoping the next set of coils I purchase is the last. A little curious about the progressive vs linear, since the Teraflex lift has 16” of action in the rear that I might not see with a linear coil.…

Maybe. But they’ll still be collapsing if they’re not the right spring rate. The true HD’s look like they’re all linear.

I have AEV HD springs and they worked out pretty good. I ended up with about 5 inches of lift in the back on the empty bed. While fully loaded with RTT and other equipment and tools in the bed it was still sitting higher in the back than a front.

The front came out good but I am nose heavy with mopar steel bumper, winch and compressor under the hood. I ended up tossing 1 inch TF spacer in the front to level it out a bit. Now when I am loaded and ready to go it sit pretty good.

While jeep is empty it rides a bit rough but I also run Bilstien shocks that a stiffer then others. While loaded it handles pretty good.
