Before I go to the dealer about a throttle lag and inconsistency problem and get told by them that "it is normal" or "no problem found", I'd like to hear from you all about what is or is not normal.

Just off idle, like when taking off slowly, my throttle is inconsistent. If I touch it to start moving it usually gives a little jolt of rpm then it flattens out like the engine is hesitating or stalling. From there it feels like it takes a lot of throttle movement to get moving, but I never know just how much to give it. Sometimes it seems more normal. If I hit the gas harder (to take off faster) vs trying to be mellow, it seems relatively consistent. It is difficult to start off with any precision. At stop lights I usually let the guy in front of me go and create more space than usual before I'll start out, lest I run into him.

In park or neutral, if I punch the gas and let off really quickly, my foot will be off the throttle before the engine begins to rev. It will rev pretty high then it will slow back down to idle. If I do the same thing in my Ram (also has electronic throttle), it will react immediately and with a very minimal rpm change and it is done when my foot is off the throttle (it is a diesel, not gas, but it reacts like everything else I've ever driven).

If I do the same quick punch when driving, it causes it to downshift a few gears and the revs hang high long after I have let off. It gets to the point I feel I need to hit the brakes.

At idle if I press the gas just a little and let off quickly, the same lag is there. The rpms lag behind the throttle movement.

It has been like this from day one. Is any of this normal???

A fella I know has early Lou Gehrigs but he can still drive - however the movement of his feet isn't as precise as it used to be and so riding with him is a little unnerving because the throttle and brake operation isn't particularly smooth when starting, stopping, or even when just trying to maintain constant speed.

Truck is probably fine.

Stock tires. Has done this since day 1 with the stock tires and stock gears. Gearing is different now. Problem remains.

Other than trying to start out smoothly and consistently (and not being able to), the rest of what I posted was just tests I did that are easily to demonstrate and had repeatable results. Some could also come up in "normal" driving, like pressing the gas hard then letting off but the engine keeps on revving. Are you all saying your JTs are like this??

I get that too a bit. Seems like it wants to go all or nothing sometimes when starting out and reverse is ridiculous. It's nothing, nothing, nothing .... hit the brakes because it launches like a rocket.

Need a scan tool like JScan or similar that can monitor both the foot pedal position % and throttle body intake position % reading and slowly actuate the pedal and see if there is drop outs or flat spots in the readings and go from there.

Usually the system is pretty good to see disparities and throw a OBDII code.

I do plan on recording rpm, accelerator position, and maybe a parameter related to fueling or throttle valve position and printing it before I go to the dealer. I have an Autel unit and the necessary cable for the secure gateway module. If the weather is nice I might do it tomorrow. I'm just really hoping this is not "normal", but I'm going to take it in regardless.

Mines never behaved like that. Very smooth/linear throttle response; forward or reverse. I know I read somewhere here that there's a throttle recalibration procedure; I'd try looking and applying that first before venturing over to the dealer.

Have you recalibrated your throttle?

If I remember correctly you put the ignition in Run without pressing the brake so it doesn't start. Then you do a steady press of the throttle to the floor twice, turn the ignition off and your done.

Is this in the manual somewhere ? Or did you get this from a YouTube video or something ? I would like to research more about it. Thanks

Mine is similar. A kinda vague response when at partial throttle. Maybe I just need to keep the hammer down at all times…
