It’s finally that time to spend out money on new tires. What is everyone’s preference and how do they do in the snow? Give me your opinions please.

That is a wide open question. If snow is your main concern look for 3-peak rated tires.

For my use which is about 95% on road, 5% off road I am enjoying my 37" BFG KO2s. They handled what snow we had last year in MD.

I opted for;

Kenda Klever R/T - 35x10.5x17 for a dedicated summer set.

Mickey Thompson Baja Boss AT 255/85R17 (35x10x17) for a dedicated winter set.

First Jeep self ordered by me March 12th. and purchased May 27th. Happy with the Kenda & their nearly 5,000 miles and the Mickeys with only a few hundred miles on them. The MTs have yet to see winter.

Narrow is definitely better than wide for ON ROAD wet/snow conditions.

A lot of people seemingly have gone with both of these tires. Both 3-Peak Mountain Snowflake Rated.

Summer Kenda Klever R/T

On my way now to have a set of 37x12.5 Mickey Thompson Baja Boss ATs mounted. I'm switching out from a set of 35" BFG KO2s that served me well for almost 50K miles. Both are three-peak rated, and they need to be in Upstate NY. I can definitely recommend the KO2s, and have high hopes for the new boss.

I had the Falken Wildpeak 33's that came on my Rubicon. Great in the rain, didn't have much snow last year but they did well in what we did have. Mostly under 6".
Just went to 35's and went with the Wildpeak again.

I just switched to a set of Toyo Open Country AT3 in 35x11.5 from Nitto Trail Grapplers in 35x12.5. So far I love them. Anxious to try them out in the snow. Quiet, great road manners, and look good.

Ok so that’s my next question when you went from the 12.5 to the 11.5 any difference? I’m currently running 285-70-17 and thinking of going 35x12.5

Wider is worse on slippery surfaces. Watch the video, I shared above. Well, unless you prefer fashion over function. You did ask about snow specifically…

Generally speaking and for the most part, these forums are all the same really… people will ignore the facts to simply look cool.

thank you I’m actually looking at the baja boss a/t and trying to decide which Mickey Thompson tire to get and what size to get. Yes I do want a good tire for the snow. I am currently running the 285-70-17. Thanks for any more help you can provide.

I ran 35x12.5 KO2s on stock Ruby rims for 47K with the 2-inch Mopar lift. No problems at all, and from what I’ve read you might be able to do that even without the extra lift. I liked the firm footprint on sand and mud.
I understand the issues about width and snow, but I trust that three-peak designation. My KO2s were great, and I expect the Mickey Thompsons will be too.

I've got Yokohama Geolandar X-ATs in 35x12.50r17 and they did fantastic in the Utah snow last winter. This year I'll be up in Idaho so I'm sure they'll get more snow use as well.

I have trail grappler MTs. They're fine, no complaints, but when I swap them out I will go to KO2s.
