Ok, newbie here. When I go to load my boat sometimes the R starts to flash and it won’t let me back up to hook to hitch. Seems like it must be something to do with to close to bumper and it stops me. I have turned off park assist but it still does it. Have no idea how to turn off that feature. Thanks.

Get yourself a Tazer from Z Automotive and you can shut that off.

You have to latch the seat belt and keep your weight in the seat to move it with the door open. It's known as Auto Park.

Victor and Irina Yelchin, the distraught parents of the young actor, pursued legal action against Fiat Chrysler, the company that manufactured the Jeep Grand Cherokee, according to an Associated Press report (via USA Today). "In spite of our unbelievable grief, we decided to come here to prevent other families from the same tragedy," Victor Yelchin said. The Yelchins reached a settlement with the carmaker in 2018.

I wonder if Jeep recalled all of the vehicles with “e-shift”? If not, then these people prevented nothing. They shouldn’t have gotten anything, in my opinion. He didn’t put the vehicle in park and got out of it. That is his fault.

It is frustrating you can bypass by disconnecting the door electrical link. Backing up with the door open hanging out the side is the proper way to back to a hitch.

As you have found out the "auto park" is a PTA. Quite irritating to someone who has been backing up with door open for decades right or wrong. I've been doing this for multiple reasons. One is the ability to focus on how far the vehicle has moved, when hooking up a trailer without backup cameras.
Note, that situation many people think of first is the McDonald's hot coffee case. The person who had that happen was an elderly woman who did receive severe burns from scalding hot coffee. I remember back when you received hot coffee or other hot beverages it would be to hot to drink for about a hour at times. I recently got the rest of the story on that. Why it became such an important case was the lawyers flat out refused to pay her medical bills for the incident "all that was requested ", then the judge and jury seen all the details of it and the rrefusal. So massive punitive judgment, now the end result is liability scares the S### out of companies now on punitive damages payments.

Unless you're a giraffe you can't see the hitch no matter how far you hang out the door. The backup camera on the other hand not only has a clear view of the hitch there's a black dotted line showing you right where the ball is headed even when you turn the wheels. You might think you look cool hanging out the side of the truck, but anyone who's ever driven one knows your doing to the hard way.

I should have added the /s. But a million years ago before backup cameras that is how I would do it. Not to see the hitch. To hear the hitch.

On a vehicle without a backup camera, it is typical to have your door open when backing up to connect a trailer. Not that you can see the ball, but to judge the distance that you have backed up to position the ball and hitch. Cameras make it easier for sure.

If you buy hot coffee and spill it on yourself, same on you. Lawyers suck on that one for sure. If you get out of your car while it is in gear, same on you as well. Lawyers suck there too. Both of these cases are Dawin award recipient contestants. People have to take responsibility for their own actions. Surviving family members should learn from the mistakes of their loved ones.

All JTs and JLs have back up cameras. I think auto park is unnecessary, but the way this particular gripe is worded makes no sense. Look at the camera and leave the door closed, problem solved.

That is right. Use the camera! It is hard to break years of habits. My father-in-law to this day looks at his mirrors to line up left and right. Still doesn't look at the camera display.
