Can totally relate to the OP, had the same situation with my wife's Wrangler so we decided it was time to call it quits for the time being. I used my Gladiator equity to help get her into a Raptor of her choice, but we looked hard at the 4Runners. We will be back in a Jeep one day, thankfully things seem to be turning around with their management, so time will tell.

For what it’s worth:

https://www.motortrend.com/features/most-reliable-dependable-car-brands/

1. Lexus
2. Toyota
.
.
.
11. Jeep (industry average)

Frankly, I’m happy to hit average reliability for the entire brand… there are definitely some duds in the lineup. Also, there are some surprises (to me) on the list… who knew GM was doing so well?

And Mini??? They certainly don’t have a reputation for reliability.

All said, the Gladiator is my favorite vehicle I’ve ever owned, and there have been many.
The problem with those statistics... it's nothing but a survey. The "my visor broke, my steering wanders (because you have your tires at 40psi and it doesn't drive like a car), etc crowd all count against dependability even though those complaints have 0 to do with actual dependability.

That and lower tech makers like Toyota do better on those surveys because of it. Take out infotainment and driver amenity complaints and that list would get reshuffled way different.

And most of their product line was super dated and super boring, leading to boring buyers who don't expect any level of performance and certainly aren't pushing the vehicle. Not that every Jeep buyer is, but I'm guessing it's a much higher percentage, from the off road side to the track hawk grand cherokee Jeep had vehicles people are excited about pushing the limits in, which isn't the best for long term reliability.

Jeeps are infinitely more fun than a 4 Runner, but I loved the simplicity and dependability of the 4 Runner. My 4R's never made a noise. Not a creak. Not a pop. Not a rattle. Not a squeak. My JT had creaking doors on day two. The interior makes all kinds of pops, but so far I really like it. The modding of the Jeep is way better obviously than a 4R which adds to the fun factor. I trust that the 4 Runner will last way longer than any JL/JT, but the robustness of the suspension and solid axles will outlast any 4R.

Who cares though? Why care what some list says?
I do! The 2 lists that I don’t want to be on is. The police report in the newspaper and in the obituary section.
