If the PPE does not use the factory filter that will give the dealer a good reason to deny warranty if the trans ever fails.
According to the Magnussen-Moss Act (1974), you can use aftermarket filters and the dealer cannot deny your warranty, unless they are claiming that somehow the filter wasn't up to OE specs.

That said, it's all in the dealer's hands. They can find a way to deny a warranty on almost anything, if they really wanted to.

And that is why I have been my own warranty and just kept stuff up to par. Letting any truck go till something breaks or is malfunctioning is really neglectful because many things will be wore out not just what finally gives up. Warranties are for chumps. The price of a warranty is as much as a new Transmission. And nearly that of an engine.

Has anyone seen a steel transmission pan with a drain plug. I would much rather have that and not spend $300+ on a PPE aluminum pan.

I couldn't find one. Only the plastic pan has a drain plug at one point than they discontinued.

I am looking forward to inspecting the trans pan when I change the oil in it. Probably is nothing in it. The PPE holds an extra quart so it won't get hot again,,,,lol and the cast aluminum will protect it from rock damage .

There was nothing in the factory pan, just a little crud on the magnets. Oil was very dark, almost black. IMO, change the trans fluid 30-40K just to be safe. Installing a PPE pan kit a real PITA. Just have a drain plug installed on the factory steel pan. Factory steel pan is heavy.

Now that I am finally filling the trans with new fluid I read several instructions about that. Engine running, perfect temp and trans level. JMO, if the temp makes that much of a difference in the level we are all screwed. If the trans has to be perfect level we are screwed. So don't take your jeep on any long hill when it gets hot. I plan on getting it very close to correct but it won't be perfect as these are driven over all angles and temps. These exact instructions are to keep the trans service people able to charge more for a simple service check.
Engine warm and running, go through the gears, put in park and add till it runs out.

There is some fudge factor built in. Transmission is not going to grenade if you are off a couple ounces +/-.

Factory fill and level procedures for JL and JT make no mention of the transmission needing to be level, just the vehicle on a level hoist.

I have been reading a lot of posts about the PPE pan and changing the transmission oil. I am getting ready to do it on my JTM.
I have a couple questions I am more confused on after reading all the different posts…
1. Can the PPE pan use the factory gasket (the flat steel and o-ring one).
2. Is the Mopar branded oil the same as the ZF branded oil..

1. Pretty sure, yes, but I will let someone else answer that.
2. Yes.

It does NOT use the same filter. I'm still thinking of one of these and if I do one, I will probably buy just one extra filter.

Thanks Dan. i am going to buy an extra filter too…
I hope the OEM gasket works with the PPE Pan, if it doesn’t that would make it a hard no for me.
I am also going to have a bung welded into my original pan, just incase I want to change it back for any reason.
