REEVs are a great idea. Let the engine run at their most efficient or not at all. That being said... there's no telling yet if the engineering and build cost's effect on the MSRP is going to be in any way shape or form recoverable by the owner. Though it does look from the HP figures they are targeting this powertrain configuration as the premium option, so they'll probably get away with it since many people buy largest, faster engines all the time with zero expectations of ROI.

Also, if Jeep views the Wagoneer naming experiment as a failure it's one of their own doing. They had the vehicle sold by CDJR dealerships and it appeared on the jeep.com website labeled as a non-Jeep vehicle. Seriously, you used to go to jeep.com and click 'build and price' and be presented with options to build a Jeep brand vehicle OR build a Wagoneer brand vehicle.

As far as ditching the wagoneer to call them all grand wagoneers... that's just dumb. The idea that anyone might be confused that a grand wagoneer was more expensive than a wagoneer is idiotic. sounds like an idea they got from a focus group.

That's how VW is building the new Scout vehicles. I'm not opposed to the idea of having a range extended EV, you can do a lot of fun stuff with that setup - like using the range extender as a generator in camp, or tapping into the battery pack for camp power if you don't want the generator running. You can still carry fuel for long distance off-grid travel - and you wouldn't have to carry as much.

I'd like to see them bring it to the Gladiator as a powertrain option.

This REEV option is much like locomotive power, correct?

I think this is one EV option that should be explored more
Yup. Audi already ran the Dakar rally with a vehicle using this style power train. Weird listening to it because when it would run by the cameras the engine would be cranking at a steady 4-5k rpm’s. Other times it would go by dead silent except for the whine of the ev motors. See the YouTube video.

I forget what place they finished but I think it was pretty high up there.

I think it was Carlos Sainz Sr.'s last Dakar too. Yes, the dad of F1 driver Carlos Sainz Jr. was still racing Dakar in his 60s - and winning.

I like this idea of powertrain… At least until some knucklehead puts an exhaust on it…

Seems to be an overly complex solution in search of a problem. The petrosexuals won't get one because it has a battery and it's more efficient than a V8, the granolas won't get it because it has a gas engine, and most everyone in between can live with either gas or electric or have both in their household.

We're already seeing BEV SUVs approaching 500 miles per charge, such as the Escalade IQ and Lucid Gravity. And the existing Wagoneer has a range of nearly 500 miles on gas.

On top of that, based on my experience having one as a rental for a week, the Wagoneer is a total shitbox.

The petrosexuals won't be able to ignore the 647 hp, and 620 lb/ft that no ICE powertrain will come close to.

Not to mention 99% of these are sold to stuck up, upper middle class suburbanites who just point down to the end of the row and say, is that the best one? give me that one.

Honestly, I'd rather just have the battery edition. Yes, I know there's no battery edition. Not interested in the added cost/complexity of this. To me it's for rich folks or a segment that needs the power of ev with the capability to run for many hours/miles without extensive downtime to recharge.

That being said , I'm glad to see this come to market.

I agree, my Scout pre-order is pure EV, don't care about the gas engine, don't want it.

But all the people who tow the USS Nimitz up the Ike gauntlet every single day of their lives on their hourly trips to the moon and back NEED that capability.

So that's where the market is.

Are stereotypes founded in reality and statistics or are they knee jerk reactionary traits of people that are simple minded?
